Celebrating Gifted
February 2024
Greetings, GT Families!
It's February already! With February comes the hum of the school routines, friendship parties, unpredictable weather, and, this year, a leap day! In this month's newsletter, as always, we have included updates from GT PAC, TPSP, Innovation Hour, and GT Learning Plans. Please be sure to join us for our monthly Information Download session!
February is also the time of course selection and looking ahead to the next school year. This month's newsletter shares information on grade band transitions, GT Academy application information, and GT Mentorship application information. We look forward to assisting you as you make these important decisions for your child(ren)!
Sincerely,
FBISD GT Department

GT Summer Camp 2024 (grades 1-2 and 3-5)π
FBISD is happy to announce our GT summer camps for the Summer 2024. STEM-based camps will be offered for 1st β 2nd & 3rd β 5th grade* for gifted students. (*Note - the grades 3-5 camp will be the same one that was offered last year, so if your child wanted to attend last year but could not, it is being offered again this year!)
Registration for summer camp is "first come, first serve" and spots are limited for each camp. Registration will open on February 13, 2024, at 12pm in Revtrac. Summer camp details along with the registration information is available on our summer camp webpage
We look forward to expanding our camps this summer and providing an opportunity for our students to enhance and showcase their skills. If your child's grade band is not listed yet - we will be adding other grade-bands (and other camps in each grade band) in subsequent years.
Icon of the Month - Multiple Perspectives πππ
Multiple Perspectives asks students to consider how another person would think about a topic. By encouraging children to view issues or topics from different angles, we help them develop a well-rounded understanding of the world around them.
Sentence Starters for Multiple Perspectives:
How might a professional in the field view ____ differently from the average person?
What opposing opinions have been voiced about ____?

Get ready for the upcoming Campus Gifted and Talented Showcases!
In the next few weeks, parents can expect to receive information about their campus GT Showcase from their child's school. To ensure students are well prepared for their presentations, the student work period should conclude by the end of February. This early end allows students ample time to plan and organize their projects. It's important to note that each campus will have its own unique way of designating the end of the student work period, so be sure to stay tuned for specific details from your child's school. Get ready to celebrate and applaud the exceptional talents of our gifted students!
Please check your child's campus GT web page by going to the campus main page. Click the header labeled "Students and Parents," then click on "Gifted and Talented."
Innovation Hour ππ
We recently added two new campuses to our Innovation Hour pilot. We are excited to have Heritage Rose Elementary and Neill Elementary be part of Innovation Hour. Innovation Hour students are eagerly looking forward to presenting their projects and explaining the reasoning behind them. The emergence of creative and innovative ideas showcases that students are at the forefront, leading the development of their products.
