St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 4 | WEEK 5 I 8 November 2024
Good afternoon everyone,
I would like to start with a bit of a gloat, in that yesterday our AMAZING Interschool Athletics Team went off to Santich Park to compete against 5 other schools in our region. We were fighting well out of our weight division, with a number of 3 stream schools there, however, I am very happy to report that we were 3rd overall with some amazing individual performances. And… we beat SOTS too!
More importantly than all of this however, is that our teachers came back glowing about the comradery, sportsmanship and behaviour of our students. From the time they got to school, the whole team represented our school with pride, tried their best and had fun. As the principal, I believe that is what makes our school so great – congrats to all and thanks to the teachers and parents who supported our kids. It has been a great term on the interschool front, with our Numero Team & Spelling Bee students on the podium too!
With four weeks to go until our students finish, can I please ask our parent to have regular conversations with their kids about how they treat their peers, deal with conflict appropriately and ask for help when they need it. At this time of year we are all a tad tired and sensitive, however, we have an exciting month ahead and we want to end the year on a high, with lots to celebrate!
Kindy Orientation for 2025 & Parent Morning Tea
We look forward to catching up with parents of our 2025 three-year-old cohort and new Kindy families next Monday in the Library while our 2025 Kindy students have their transition morning. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents and have a cuppa in a relaxed environment.
Remembrance Day Service 10.50am 11/11/24
Next Tuesday at 11:00am, Australians will pause in silence for a minute to remember the bravery and sacrifice of the people who lost their lives while serving Australia and its allies in wars, conflicts and peace operations. Parents are welcome to attend.
Below is a simple story about Remembrance Day for younger students:
I have quietly reminded a few parents recently that lollies have no place in a child’s lunchbox, and indeed, a child shouldn’t be turning up to school with a lollipop or any other lolly or sweet, highly processed food in their mouth. Why? Because we want our kids to be in the best possible position to learn and to be able to regulate themselves appropriately. Sugar works against these two goals.
Many thanks to all those parents who are setting their kids up well with a healthy breakfast, and healthy lunchbox options. It really makes a difference – to our kids and teachers!
I hope you all have an amazing weekend, I am running the Fremantle half marathon this weekend as a leadup event to the Ironman in December. If I am limping around a bit on Monday, you will know why!
