COMMUNITY UPDATE
Greetings CUBS-
Happy MAY Collins Cubs! We made it to our final full month of school. As I walk around the building and visit each classroom, I am always amazed by the amount of rich learning taking place in every grade level. Our instructional and support staff always take time to prepare detailed lessons in advance and spend countless hours of their own time preparing an engaging lesson for our students. In order to HONOR our fabulous teachers and staff at Collins, we look forward to saying MAHOLO to our TIKI-RIFFIC Teachers and Staff all week long with PTO and front office staff sponsored activities. We need your help! If you are able to donate an item on the PTO list, please feel free to sign-up here:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084EABA828A5FBC34-49234354-collins.
The celebrations will begin on MONDAY, May 6th. In addition, your child's teacher was given a sheet of their FAVORITES to send home, if they choose to do so. Please see our section below for additional information. THANK YOU!
MSTEP TESTING CONTINUES NEXT WEEK!
We are almost there!! Next week on Monday, 5th graders will have their last MSTEP test on Social Studies. Once those are completed, we will begin doing any/all make-up sessions for our students that were absent.
BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS & RULES REVIEW:
As we move into the last month of May, please join us in helping to support our CUBS in remembering all the COLLINS expectations and behaviors acceptable for school. Students have needed several reminders recently to be respectful to teachers, guest teachers, and to lunch/recess supervisors. In addition, please be sure to monitor their technology on school-issued devices. We thank you and appreciate your support as we navigate the final weeks of our 23-24 school year.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Warm regards,
Principal Ciacchella

All Collins Cubs are expected to follow protocols and procedures while showing their PAWS! Teachers will be on the lookout for ways to celebrate students showing their PAWS and have a chance to earn incentives.
UTICA COMMUNITY SCHOOLS PARENT HANDBOOK FOR BEHAVIORS
Please review all Utica Community Schools behavior policies in the Parent Handbook attached to the link below. It is expected that all UCS policies and procedures will be adhered to at any/all school functions and on school properties. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
SCHOOL SAFETY UPDATE
Safety remains a priority for our school. Collins Elementary is once again providing training to our students on our safety protocols. The protocols identify actions that students may be asked to take in the event of a potential incident: hold, secure, lockdown, evacuate and shelter.
The training is provided through a short, animated video. In the video, the teacher – Mrs. Appleton – and her students walk through the different responses in a very relaxed and engaging way for younger children. The script was written by our staff.
The protocols will continue to be part of the training while practicing our regular school safety drills, such as fire drills, security drills, tornado drills, evacuation procedures, etc.)
The video is available for you to review at this link: UCS School Safety: Standard Response Protocol - Elementary - YouTube If you have any questions, please contact our office.
