Weekly Wrap-Up #22: 02/07/2025
Wrapping up This Week + News for the Weeks to Come
From the Principal's Mind...
Dear Grizzly Families,
Apologies for the late delivery of our Weekly Wrap up. Unfortunately, my MacBook computer died on Friday and completing my work on my home PC (which does not like my apple images) took longer. Thank you for extending grace for this unexpected delay.
Next week we have BOTH our 2/3 SHOWCASE and Valentine's Day to look forward to as a school. Showcase set up and tear down are opportunities to get to know some of the other parents in our fabulous school community. Come join the fun if you can! Sign up link is available in Class Dojo.
At this midyear point, it’s important that your contact information in the Parent Portal is updated to receive any communications regarding school closures, school delays, or other school emergencies. Please add emergency contacts to your child’s profile also in case you are unable to pick up your child if school is closed early. This resource will help clarify the process to update your Parent Portal:
Information to assist families in updating their children’s contact information in the Parent Portal. Please stay connected through Class Dojo as well as this is our school wide communication system and you can communicate directly with our staff.
This past week we held our winter Partners in Education (PIE) Night and PTA meeting. I truly enjoyed the opportunity to hear from families about what is important and needs to be protected at Garfield (LISA, collaboration), what might need to be tweaked or abandoned (tech in classrooms), and is there anything new we should consider (playground upgrade). I also know that maybe other families would like some input into our plans for next year and so I have linked a simple google form that allows you to tell us what you think or you may reach out to me via phone, email, face to face, or Class Dojo. This form will stay open until February 21st and then I'll share back with you what our community is saying.
By our next week's Weekly Wrap Up, links will be included to register for Spring Parent Teacher Conferences with your child's teacher(s). They have been scheduled for the first week of March. In order to better support our families, we will be available Monday (3/3), Tuesday (3/4) OR Wednesday (3/5) from 3:30-7:00. Additionally, if these times don't work for you, your child's teacher(s) will work with you directly to find a time that can work. We value these opportunities to connect with our families.
As always, feel free to reach out to share ideas and/or ask questions via e-mail (kathy.sather@tsd.org), class dojo, phone (970-613-6000) or in person.

LHS Hosts: Elementary Spin & Dance Camp: Register by 2/28
Elementary Spin and Dance Camp will be a short introduction to the unique activity that is colorguard/winterguard. Students will be introduced to dance and flag choreography. This is open to any TSD or local charter students. The camp will be taught by our amazing Director of Guards, Mrs. Katelyn Kellogg, her staff, and some select high school colorguard students.
The camp will be happening March 10th-11th at Lincoln Elementary (thank you Principal Stotter) and March 12th at Loveland HS where the camp students will get to perform as part of our Winter Ensembles showcase. After they perform, they'll get to see the "big kids" doing the same activity which I'm sure will be a highlight for them and their families. This performance will be free of charge, donations to the LHS Bands program accepted but not expected.
The cost of the camp is $35 and includes, t-shirt, pizza dinner, and instruction. Financial assistance is available to families that need it. LHS want sto be fully inclusive. We know that most families and students don't know what colorguard is and we are hoping to change that. It's a really fun activity and they can participate in middle school and high school groups as they get older no matter what school they attend. Here is the link to register: bit.ly/elemguardcamp
CHALLENGE FOR HEALTHY HABITS!
Hello Grizzlies! It's Healthy Kids 5210+ Challenge time! Our school can win prize money by practicing 5210+ healthy habits. The whole month of February, students, staff and families can track their daily 5210+ healthy habits on a tracking log. The tracking log should have come home this past week with your child(ren). At the end of the month, students with 80 or more checks will earn a T-shirt (that we will use to tie dye for field day)! Families—complete a family log for additional 5210+ family fun. Submissions will be done online by March 5 so stay tuned for reminders. Prize money has been used to fund playground equipment, Fun & Fitness Day, etc.
Come on Grizzlies! Let's win some money for Garfield and get healthy while we do it!
