The FINAL Washington Weekly
June 9, 2025
🍎Principal's Message
Greetings Washington Families,
Welcome to the last edition of The Washington Weekly for the 24-25 school year! As we launch into summer, we want to take a moment to celebrate an out-of-this-world school year! All year long, we challenged our students and staff to Reach for the Stars—and they absolutely did.
From setting ambitious goals to navigating challenges with resilience, our school community has truly gone above and beyond. Whether it was blasting off into new learning, orbiting around collaboration, or landing big accomplishments, our students worked hard, stayed focused, and shined bright. We couldn’t be prouder of their growth and achievements.
As we prepare for our final countdown, be sure to read this week’s newsletter for important reminders about Field Day and our 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony.
☀️ Stay tuned over the summer! Visit our school website for updates, supply lists, and important dates for the 2025–2026 school year. Have a safe, restful, and fun summer!
Let’s make it a great LAST week at 1000 Fayetteville Street!
Magically,
Catie Burnette
Principal
🎉Field Day is Tuesday, June 10!
Get ready for a FUN-filled day of games and activities! Please help your child be prepared:
⭐Wear comfortable clothes and sneakers! Students will be active throughout the day.
⭐Apply sunscreen at home before school – per WCPSS policy, staff cannot apply sunscreen.
⭐Pack a water bottle – it’s going to be hot and hydration is important!
⭐Bring a change of clothes (including underwear and socks) if your child wants to participate in water games. (No swimsuits, please! Clothes can be brought earlier this week and kept in a cubby or locker.)
🥳Celebrating Retirements
This year, we celebrate the retirements of two beloved long-time Washington staff members. Their dedication, care, and lasting impact have shaped our school community in countless ways. As they begin this next chapter, we thank them for their years of service and wish them joy and adventure in retirement!
- Sherri DeVoto, 5th Grade Teacher

⭐Shining Star Update
The PTA is happy to announce that we were able to approve multiple teacher grants to purchase various enrichment materials, equipment, and supplies to support our Washington students and teachers. With the use of our Shining Star funds, we were able to purchase new materials for our calm down room for OT services and students with sensory needs, musical instruments and sheet music for our music teachers, wireless handless microphones for our theater productions, reading materials for classroom use, and enrichment kits for our AIG teachers to be shared schoolwide! The PTA purchased additional fossil kits to be added to our fossil pit. Thank you again for all your past financial support to the WES PTA!
