Congratulations Inventors!
A record SIX Inventors have made it through the State round and into the Regional Finals at the University of Connecticut on June 8th! Congratulations to:
Planting Day
April showers have continued into May, and the Garden Club members could not be happier! Each class was invited to the Sprout House for a mini lesson. Ambassadors in each classroom led their classmates through the process of planting either a vegetable seed or a flower seed. Students are using biodegradable cups that can go directly into the soil!
Exploring Virtual Biomes
Students were able to explore various biomes (rainforest, desert, savanna, tundra) through an interactive virtual reality experience. Sights and sounds were investigated to make predictions regarding what vegetation and animal life would survive in each environment.
Update from LMC
Dear Lion families,
The end of the year is always a busy time in the library. All library books will be due over the next few weeks. If your student still has a book out, please remind them to return it ASAP. Final notices will be going home during the last few weeks of school.
This month 5th graders have been learning to use our school database to do their Revolutionary War research.
We will be spending the remainder of the school year working through a variety of STEM lab centers. This rotation will provide students with more choice and flexibility to explore, design, and create. They are already showing such creativity and perseverance!
We will also begin to discuss summer reading. Fifth graders will receive more information during their visit to the Middle School. Fourth graders will be setting their summer reading goals and be introduced to some great new titles they may want to read this summer. In addition, town librarian Ms. Dylan will be visiting Center School on May 30th. More info to come!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us or refer to the library website at https://sites.google.com/site/centermemoriallibrary/ .

Cellphones & Smart Watches
While we recognize the convenience and utility of these devices, we also want to emphasize the importance of responsible usage, particularly within the school environment.
Smart watches and phones have become increasingly prevalent among students, offering a wide range of features and functionalities. However, at our level, their use during instructional time is disruptive and detract from the learning experience. Therefore, we kindly ask for your cooperation in adhering to the following guidelines:
- Cellphones should remain off and secure in backpacks when in school.
- Smart Watches should be placed in a mode that allows for distraction-free learning, most models have a School Mode or Schooltime feature.
As most staff can attest to, service is very spotty in our building. Any urgent messaging from/to students should be communicated through our office. We appreciate your partnership in providing both your child and our staff distraction free learning.
Attendance Matters
If a student has four unexcused absences in one month or 10 unexcused absences in a year they are classified as truant. If a child misses 18 or more days in a school year – excused or unexcused absences – the student is classified as chronically absent.
