Principal's Message:
Kia ora e te whaanau,
It has been a jam-packed fortnight with events in the school. Whangamata Area School sports exchange was a resounding success with us taking out the cup 12 to 6. Our students were excellent ambassadors for the school and showed our school values cheering on both schools equally.
We had a beautiful day for athletics, and it was great to see so many whaanau attending. This sporting event is an example of where being an area school shines through with our senior students helping our junior students to compete.
Last weekend we managed to get Ag Day done before the rain hit. The day was successful raising money for covering the senior courts and seeing our students compete. A massive thank you to the Ag Day committee who put hours and hours into organising the event. Thank you to the staff who volunteered their time to support the day and thank you to the families and community members who helped us on the day.
Seniors head off on exam leave at the end of this week. We wish them the best of luck in their exams, we know they will study hard to ensure they show the very best of themselves in their exam results. Over this time if Year 11-13 students are onsite for workshops or teacher support they need to make sure they sign in and out at the office, so we know they are here. If they are here for an exam their attendance is recorded at the hall so there is no need for them to sign in at the office. If you have any questions about workshops or extra support please contact the subject teacher.
To the Year 13’s and Year 12’s who are leaving us, we wish you all the best for your future journey. Thank you for your positive contribution to our school over your time here, we know you will all go on to be successful in your fields.
Lastly at the end of the year we will be saying goodbye to a couple of staff members. Chris O’Keeffe is heading to Gisbourne for retirement and Jess Cochrane will be on maternity leave. We would like to thank Chris for her amazing service to the school, 14 years is an incredible amount of time in one school. We are hugely going to miss Chris and her expertise in fixing network issues and all things ICT.
Ngaa mihi,
Rebecca Bills

COMMUNITY NEWS
Auckland Regional Dental Service:
Auckland Regional Dental Service:
Kia ora, Talofa lava, Mālō e leilei, Kia orāna, Bula, Fakaalofa lahi atu
We are delighted that after two and a half years of significant service interruptions, the Covid-19 Protection Framework has now been removed.
Whilst we transition through this new period, we would like to thank our communities for their ongoing support and patience.
The removal of the Protection Framework will usher in a new sense of ‘normality’ for dental services with Covid-19 pre-screening no longer required prior to an appointment. We do however, still require medical masks to be worn in our clinics by children over the age of 12 years and their parent/caregiver. Masks will be provided in our clinics.
The impact of the Covid-19 restrictions throughout the pandemic period has created delays in children accessing routine dental care on time. ARDS is committed to working through a recovery plan and has opened additional Saturday clinics to support access. Alongside this, a priority booking model is being used to offer dental appointments firstly for:
Children where dental treatment has been identified
Children who may be experiencing pain
Those children who have been waiting the longest for an examination
Children who are identified as having a higher dental risk
If, however your child is in pain or you have any concerns about your child’s teeth, please phone 0800 TALK TEETH (0800 825 583) to speak with one of our staff. Our staff will be able to assist with your queries and work with you to establish an appropriate timeframe for your child to be seen.
If you phone outside our normal operating hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-4.30pm, please contact your after-hours GP or Healthline on 0800 611 116. Alternatively, please contact your nearest dentist to ask if they are contracted to offer free emergency after hours care for children.
As we work through this recovery plan, we ask that you please continue to be considerate with our staff who are doing their utmost to ensure dental care is provided to children identified with the highest needs first.
The Children’s Community Dental Service.
Dandelions and Dragonflies
The Childcare and Early Learning Centre on the school grounds has now been fully renovated. We’ve extended the operating hours and are now open Mon-Fri from 7:30am-5:30pm. We’ve also been through all the licencing requirements to now be able to provide spaces for babies for the first time, so we can cater from 3 month olds through to 5 year olds. We’ve also installed a Commercial Kitchen and hired a Qualified Chef to provide nutritious meals to children for the first time.
