What is a Secure Testing Environment?
A secure testing environment, for the ACT and other tests, is crucial to maintain the integrity of the test scores by preventing cheating and ensuring that all students are assessed fairly. Any unauthorized access to test materials or any irregularities during the exam could skew results and undermine the validity of the test(s).
What Does a Secure Testing Environment Look Like:
- May I bring a [clear] backpack?
- Yes, you may bring it to transport any personal items; however, it will be placed in a secure location within the testing room and will not be accessible for the entire duration of testing (no, not even lunch)
- May I bring snacks and water?
- Yes, you may bring them; however, you will need to remove them from your backpack prior to testing and keep them at the back of the room or on the floor under your desk, per your teacher's/test proctor's instructions
- No, you may not eat/drink during testing; a snack break is scheduled and you may eat/drink, outside of the testing room, during the break (and during lunch)
- We will provide snacks for the freshmen testing the ACT Aspire
- May I bring my phone and/or other electronics?
- You may bring your phone and/or other electronics to campus if needed; however, you are required to TURN OFF ALL ELECTRONIC DEVICES and HAND THEM OVER TO YOUR TEACHER/TEST PROCTOR TO BE LOCKED UP FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION OF TESTING
- Not Allowed in the Testing Room: Cellphones, Smart Watches, MP3 players, earbuds, and any other electronic device that has internet capability
- May I bring a calculator?
- Yes, you may bring an approved calculator for use on the AzSCI test; please, note that the Desmos Scientific Calculator is embedded within the AzSCI test
- Yes, you may bring an approved calculator for use on the Math portion of the ACT Aspire only
- The policy is here: https://www.act.org/content/dam/act/unsecured/documents/ACT-calculator-policy.pdf
- The Math portion of the ACT Aspire can be successfully completed without the use of a calculator, however, a calculator can save time and help ensure accuracy
- Students are responsible for bringing their own calculator and may not share with other students
- May I wear a hoodie or other headgear during testing?
- You may not have your hood up or wear any other type of head covering during testing
- Sweatshirts with hoods are allowed, but no hoods up at any time during testing
