Community Crew News # 29
March 14, 2025
March 14, 2025
Greetings Crew,
This week we were able to showcase our after school enrichment classes to a district visitor. They enjoyed seeing our program in action and were amazed that we, at Conway, offer 18 after-school classes during the week. What stood out most was the creativity of our teachers in designing such engaging enrichment experiences.
Here are a few highlights from the visit.
Beautiful Spaces Class - The students showed off the bottle cap mural they are collaboratively working on. It is a creative way to do mosaic and a great way to upcycle plastic. We all can't wait to see the final product and see it hanging somewhere in the school!WHO Crew - I learned WHO stands for "We Help Others" and I saw student impact work in action! These students are always so engaged in their work in helping Interfaith and the animals at the Humane Society. In addition, their leadership skills are being developed as they visit classrooms to promote donating to these causes. The visitor saw a group practicing their presentations and another pair of students practicing their morning announcements. This was a favorite of the classes that were visited.
ER Soccer - WOW! This class is full! It was great seeing how the coaches adapted to the wet grass from the rain by moving their practice to the blacktop. Students were practicing their jukes and shooting goals. This is such an incredible opportunity for students. Also, the coaches seemed super engaged with the students.
And more! During the visit, they also stopped by intervention classes, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and Dance To Evolve as well.
We are so grateful to all our teachers that are leading these after school classes and the vendor classes supported through the district grant that make these learning opportunities possible for students at Conway Academy.
Den Week
Rain or shine, our Den meetings always go on. This month our den meeting lesson was on communication and different forms of communication. During this multi-age crew, students worked together and identified different forms of communication. They engaged in an activity that helped them see how communication can change when the information is passed along. It was a powerful lesson that included a well balance of fun and learning together.
One thing that really stands out during these monthly meetings is the care and support our older students take when they pick up the younger students, their cubs, to escort them to their den meeting. This month I noticed how they were all protecting the little ones from the rain. It was certainly a sight to see.
World Social Worker Day
Next Tuesday is World Social Worker day! Let's show Miss Daisy how important she is to our Crew. We all feel very lucky to have her at Conway supporting the social and emotional needs of our learners. Please write her a special note, draw a picture, bring her a flower, or a special treat to show her how much we care.
smART Festival, March 22
Mark your calendars for next weekend! I invite you to see thousands of examples of their art in action and save the date for the 13th annual smART Festival on Saturday, March 22, at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. This celebration of the arts in EUSD will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the CCAE Museum and Center Theater. Student artwork from every EUSD school will be on exhibit, while student bands, dance troupes, and actors will perform on stage. We are looking forward to entertaining you at this year's smART Festival!
I am grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion. Together we are creating an EPIC school.
We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.
In crew,
Tina Meglich
Principal

However, in line with the district's wellness policy, we kindly ask that you provide food only for your student(s) and refrain from bringing food to share with other students. This policy is in place to ensure the safety and well-being of all students, as not all families are aware of other students' food allergies and the seriousness of these conditions.
