NO SCHOOL FRIDAY, 4/7
Illinois Assessment of Readiness...
Happy Weekend Spartan Families:
We hope everyone found time to enjoy their week of spring break! We are happy to be back to hit the ground running on our final 2 months of school, and we closed this week with a Students v Staff volleyball match.
Next week (Tuesday-Thursday), all students in grades 6-8 will take part in the annual Illinois Assessment of Readiness testing (IAR). These annual assessments measure student growth and the effectiveness of our curriculum in Math and ELA. Results from the assessments are shared annually on the Illinois State Board of Education School Report Card website.
To accommodate the mandated testing, we have developed a unique/wonky schedule for our testing days (click here for the IAR schedule). We are grateful for your help ensuring students are well rested and ready for testing on the scheduled days. Students may bring water and/or a light snack.
If you have any questions about testing, please reach out to our office at 847-948-0620.
Reminder that there is no school tomorrow. Have a wonderful weekend!

4pm Activity Bus Update
We have been experiencing longer than usual ride times for students who utilize the 4pm activity bus. With the start of Track and Field season and the (still) uncooperative weather, more students have been utilizing the bus for transportation home. This will likely subside as the weather improves, but please know that it may take an hour or more for some riders to make it home at this time.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Transportation Department at transportation@dps109.org.

IAR Testing (April 11,12,13 at SMS)
Students in grades 3 through 8 will be participating in the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) in English/Language Arts and Mathematics between April 4th through the 22nd.
As a district, the IAR helps us understand how students are growing academically year to year, while also providing an achievement comparison to grade-level peers across the state. The overall performance of each school, by grade, is also reported on the Illinois School Report Cards, which are released at the end of October.
The format of the Illinois Assessment of Readiness includes three Math exams and two English-Language Arts exams. All are administered on the Chromebook. Buildings will individually create a testing schedule to accommodate the learning needs of their students. This schedule will be shared with you by the building prior to testing. If you have questions about the Illinois Assessment of Readiness, please reach out to your child’s principal.
As always, we encourage our students to do their best every day. Thank you for your continued partnership in your student’s academic success.
