Family Perception Survey 2024
Each year, Shepherd Public Schools collect perception surveys from our students, teachers, and families. Our goal is to get 100% participation from all of these groups. We are hoping that you would take a few minutes to complete this survey. It is important that you complete it for each student you have in the district. It is specific to your child.
What do we do with this information? We collect all of the data from our families and set district and building wide goals. Our building leadership teams will look at Winn's and share it with our staff. We will focus in on our three most needy areas and set goals in order to make sure we are addressing your concerns. At the same time, we will focus on our three high areas as well. We will celebrate these areas and try to use what is working well to help us grow in the other areas.
All of this is part of school improvement which is required at the State level. We use this information to help improve our schools and our school system as a whole. Thank you for being part of the process!
October Star Student - Skills for Learning
Each month, we focus on a social emotional skill for Second Step. The last skill we finished was called, "Skills for Learning." These skills all relate to things you can do in class to be the best learner you can be. At the end of each theme, we ask our teachers to nominate two students who have done a great job as role models in the classroom for the skill we learned.
We are proud to announce our October "Star" Students. Each child received a token to shop in our book vending machine, a special certificate that was read aloud during morning opening, and a keep sake picture for home!
Throughout the year, we celebrate student behavior as part of our school wide PBIS initiative. PBIS is a process for creating safer and more effective schools. It is a systems approach to enhancing the capacity of schools to educate all children by developing school-wide and classroom behavior support systems. The process focuses on improving a school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students.
What is PBIS?
PBIS includes school-wide procedures and processes intended for all students and all staff in all settings. PBIS is not a program or a curriculum. It is a team-based process for systemic problem solving, planning, and evaluation. It is an approach to creating a safe and productive learning environment where teachers can teach and all students can learn.
Second Step and Capturing Kids Hearts are an important part of our PBIS initiative here at Winn. We are proud to utilize these two programs to help us create amazing human beings and excellent learners!

Make and Take December 20th Sign Up
This is one of our FAVORITE traditions at Winn Elementary each year. On Friday, December 20th, our families come in to work with students to make two special projects for the holiday season. This year, the Winn Parent's Club has a new twist on the projects.
If you are CRAFTY and LOVE to help kids make crafts, we need your help. You will be assigned a group of kids in a classroom to help make their two special 2024 crafts.
If you are interested in helping students that day here is what you need to do:
- Fill out an ICHAT (you only need to do this once a year so if you are already approved this step is done)
- Make sure we have a copy of your driver's license for the RAPTOR program (if you have had your driver's license ran before to create a name tag to get into the building this step is done too!)
- Save the date on your calendar!
- SIGN UP ON THE GOOGLE FORM BELOW. SIGN UP ASAP SO WE CAN GET A COUNT OF OUR PARENTS FOR EACH ROOM.
We look forward to filling our school with lots of families to celebrate together on the last day of school before our vacation for the holidays. See you then!
