First Friday Message from Dr. Davies
January 3, 2025
Greetings, Bulldog Community:
I hope everyone enjoyed a happy and restful holiday break. As we step into the second half of the 2024-25 school year, the coming months promise to be both exciting and eventful. Beyond our academic endeavors, we eagerly anticipate a variety of enriching activities, including musicals, concerts, athletic events, and much more. Be sure to check out our District calendar for all the details.
With winter weather in the forecast, I want to remind you about the school closings and delays page on our website. There, you’ll find important information about how our District manages delays and closures. Should you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s building principal.
In the Commonwealth, January is a time dedicated to honoring and appreciating the invaluable contributions of our Board of School Directors to the West York community and its students. While educators, principals, nurses, and other team members are celebrated throughout the year, this month focuses on the essential and often demanding responsibilities our board members shoulder.
Access to quality public education is critical for the success of our children and the strength of our society's future. This monumental task requires a collaborative effort involving teachers, administrators, staff, parents, and the broader community. Among these contributors, the nine dedicated members of West York’s school board play a pivotal role. They voluntarily commit significant time and energy to navigate complex issues such as policy development, budget approval, school security measures, and staffing decisions—ensuring the best outcomes for our District.
We invite you to visit the Board section of our website to learn more about these committed individuals. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our current Board of School Directors for their unwavering dedication and impactful service.
Mr. Dan Rice, President (seated December 2021)
Mr. John Hamme, Vice President (seated December 2023)
Mr. Todd Gettys, Treasurer and Past President and Past Vice President (seated December 2007)
Mr. Shawn Harlacher, (seated December 2021)
Ms. Jeanne Herman, Past President and Past Vice President (seated December 2011)
Mr. Lynn Kohler, Past President (seated December 2015)
Mr. Wes Myers, (seated December 2021)
Ms. Brandy Shope, Past Vice President (seated December 2019)
Mr. Brian Siatkowski (seated January 2024)
If you see any of our Directors out and about, please take a moment to express your gratitude for their service and year-round efforts on behalf of our District and community. Their job ensures that West York continues to provide opportunities for success for every student. This link will take you to some interesting facts about school board service.
Thank you for your continued support of the West York Area School District and our mission of Every Student Every Day.
Best regards,
Todd M. Davies, Ed.D.

School Board Meetings
Each month, from August through June, regularly scheduled meetings (Work Sessions and Voting Meetings) of the School Board are held in the Boardroom of the Administration Building. In addition to the two regular meetings, the School Board also hosts Board Committee Meetings. All are welcome to attend any of these public meetings. In-person attendance is recommended, but we also offer viewing-only attendance via Zoom during most Board meetings. Work Sessions and Voting Meetings are live-streamed on our District YouTube Channel.
We publish a monthly Board Bulletin, which summarizes the Work Session and Board Voting Meeting that occur during the month. The bulletin will be emailed to all families in the same manner you received this communication. Click here to view the December 2024 issue.
