STILL IMPORTANT!
Home Growth and Development:
The School District of New Berlin believes that the family plays a crucial role in students’ human growth and development education. Please read the following letter for more information regarding this topic. HGD K-6 Letter Link
School safety is one of our top priorities in the School District of New Berlin. We consistently review and revise our safety plans and protocols in an effort to provide the safest learning environments possible for all students. Additionally, we have safety measures in place after school when our buildings are open to the public for sporting events, concerts/performances, meetings, practices, and more.
Over the summer, in an effort to enhance safety throughout the district, the bell and public address systems at all schools were upgraded. The new systems will provide improved alerts and communications options in the event of an emergency. Additionally, this school year all elementary schools will have the presence of a security guard throughout the school day. The security personnel will patrol the schools and provide additional safety support in conjunction with the district’s school resource officers, who spend the majority of their day at our respective middle / high schools..
Thank you for your attention to this and your continued support of our safety measures. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to Royce Lindner by phone at (262) 789-6505 or by email at royce.lindner@nbexcellence.org
Act 20 Information:
Act 20 is Wisconsin legislation in support of ensuring all kindergarten through 3rd grade students can read proficiently by the end of third grade. The law was enacted in 2023 and the requirements are being implemented for the 2024-2025 school year.
The law's purpose is to provide guidance of evidence-based reading practices, evaluate early literacy skills, ensure all kindergarten through third grade and special education educators are equipped with the proper knowledge to teach reading, and document and enhance communication across stakeholders.
A universal reading screening assessment is administered to students three times per year. Students performing at or below the 25th percentile on this screener are then given an additional diagnostic assessment to determine the need for any further intervention.
If further intervention is necessary, a Personal Reading Plan is created for the student which includes goals, interventions, and progress monitoring.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your building principal.
