Congratulations to Alahna Daniels and Zordae Reed on their recognition by the Texas Girls Coaching Association for Academic All State! This is an amazing accomplishment as they are the first volleyball players in Shoemaker history to earn this amazing accolade. We are so proud of these Grey Wolves
Art Recognition
Congratulations to Hailey Borstad on creating such a beautiful piece and having it presented to KISD School Board Trustee, Cullen Mills, for Board Appreciation Month.
Special Olympics Basketball Camp
Shoemaker High School Coach Cion Hicks and Special Olympics Coordinator Dr. Kevin Lanxon coordinated with the Educated Angels to host an awesome basketball camp. Many volunteers showed up to assist campers in learning valuable skills while having tons of fun.
Internship/Leadership Opportunities
Ladder Internships
Ladder Internships is a selective start-up internship program for high school students, founded and run by Harvard graduate students. In the program, students work 1-1 with supervisors from top start-ups to work on real-world projects in a real start-up environment. Their companies and supervisors come from Y Combinator, Harvard iLabs, Wharton, Google, Microsoft, and McKinsey & Company.
No prior working experience is required. The application deadline for the Spring cohort is February 18, here is the brochure and the application link.
Scholarships
Now is the time when Seniors can get overwhelmed with all that there is to do before graduation. In the counseling office, we try to make it easy to find valuable resources and assistance. Click the picture and follow the directions to acces a link to over 200 scholarships. Below are some other important local scholarships as well as a key graduation requirement.
· Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA - US Citizens), or the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA - non-citizens that are Texas residents), is a graduation requirement. This means that seniors will not be permitted to walk across the stage for graduation without it first being completed. Please encourage them to visit www.studentaid.gov to get started.
· Once completed, they will need to forward the confirmation page to their counselor. Both applications are currently open with a priority deadline of March 15th.
- The CTC Foundation scholarship deadline is 11:59 p.m. on February 28th for scholarships for the fall 2024 and spring 2025 semesters. One of the included scholarships is the ❤️Wolf Warrior Scholarship ❤️. This scholarship is near and dear to us here at SHS since, prior to his passing, our namesake, Ret. General Robert M Shoemaker, donated money for a full-ride scholarship for SHS students (ONLY). This is only for students that plan on attending Central Texas College and transferring to Texas A&M-Central Texas.
- The KISD Education Foundation is happy to announce they have posted the 2024 Scholarship opportunities for graduating Seniors on their website. There are over 60 available scholarships representing $79,750 and 6 CTC tuition waivers. The good news is the students only need to fill out one application! We hope you will encourage your students to go online to check out these opportunities. Encourage your seniors to visit the www.KilleenEducationFoundation.org website. Deadline: 11:59 p.m. on February 21st
· Some of the local scholarships currently in the counselor's office include the NAACP scholarship, the Fort Cavazos Scholarship, The Bell County Area GO Texas Scholarship, Alpha Phi Alpha Scholarship, Alpha Kappa Alpha, and more.
