Principal's Update
Tēnā koutou katoa
Ngā mihi nui, kia koutou katoa - Warm greetings to you all.
I hope you all enjoyed the school holidays with your children; it is great to see them back at school and ready for another term of learning and growth.
This term we will continue with our focus on:
- creating the conditions that support the health and well being of our students
- building great learners, who have a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy
- supporting students to be confident, kind, resilient and respectful young people
- providing a variety of opportunities and experiences that enrich learning. A few examples of this for Term 2 are: each team will be going on a trip to visit a local landmark, kapa haka commences for year 3-6 students, and we will dedicate a day to celebrate Matariki and all the cultures of TPS.
Staff updates:
A special congratulations to Briar Parker who got married in the school holidays. This term we welcome Mrs Taylor and Mrs Elliott to our team; they will be job sharing, teaching in Room 16 with our newest students, (see below for their introductions).
During the winter terms children are allowed to wear plain navy track pants or leggings. We do not sell these items as they are generally available (at a reasonable price) through many local stores. Children are also allowed to wear plain navy or black thermals under their school polo for extra warmth.
We now have a full supply of uniform items available from the office.
A very warm welcome to Ivy Lane, Prem Patel, Jessica Mafi-Woods, Laken Taylor, Oliver Brown, Ashlyn Breach, Lily Braid, Cora Joyce, Luis Xavier Hayes, Niha Ratheesh, Dhwani and Sryeas Menon, Dahyeon (Dana) Kim, Huanghe (Andy) Zhu, Jahziah Reihana, Gurtaz Singh, Onithi and Sanuthi Gonapinuwala who have recently started at TPS.
Hei kōnei rā
Fiona Hawes
Principal
Tēnā koutou katoa! I am Sarah Taylor and I am thrilled to share that I have joined Tauranga Primary School as a new entrant teacher, alongside Mrs Elliott, starting from Term 2. Since 2019, I have been teaching at Tauriko School. However, Tauranga Primary School holds a special place in my heart, as I previously taught here from 2005 to 2012 before taking a break to start my family. I am privileged to return to this wonderful school, where I have many cherished memories of teaching and learning. Outside of teaching, my family and I share a love for golf and often spend our weekends on the course. When I'm not golfing, I enjoy reading, and spending quality time with my loved ones. I am excited to get to know my new students and their families and to create a positive and engaging learning environment for all.
Hi, my name is Athalae Elliott and I am currently working in Room 16 - the newest New Entrant class, job sharing with my friend and colleague, Sarah Taylor.
I have spent the last year travelling to a few different countries with my husband, John. We have three adult children and a large family of pets! I love doing anything creative. At the moment my current passion is preserving, and also planning my eldest daughter's wedding. I am very much looking forward to getting to know the families and students of Tauranga Primary School :)

Multicultural Day - 27th June
On the 27th of June, we would like to learn about and celebrate the many cultures of our students at Tauranga Primary School.
In the morning we will celebrate Matariki with breakfast and some student performances from 7.30am to 8.30am.
After that, we plan to have a day of learning about and celebrating all the other cultures represented at Tauranga Primary School. We are working to connect with various cultural groups to come and perform for us. We hope that our school community can also contribute. Are there any parents, aunties, uncles, or grandparents that could come into their child's class and share about their culture? Some ideas are: sharing traditional dress, cooking food, special celebrations, traditional stories, dances, arts and crafts.
Please contact your child's teacher if this is something you would like to be involved in.
The FOTS are excited to host our quiz night at the school hall, on Friday 7th June 2024.
To help make our second quiz night another success, we are looking for sponsors. This includes businesses that can help by sponsoring a table, sponsoring a quiz round or contributing to our growing number of raffle and auction items.
There are great advertising options for each level of sponsorship! If you would like more information please don't hesitate to reach out to Theresa (theresa.barn3s@gmail.com) to snap up your tables and quiz rounds.
Not only will our Midwinter Christmas-themed Quiz Night be an evening filled with joy and laughter, but it will also be an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our school community. We are excited to announce that all proceeds from the event will go towards the equipping of the new kitchen and toilets to be installed as part of the hall refurbishment. By participating in the Quiz Night and generously contributing to this cause, you will be supporting our students.
Prepare to put your knowledge to the test, team up with friends and family, and compete for the ultimate glory as Quiz Night champions. Mark your calendars and gather your brightest minds because Tauranga Primary School's Quiz Night is going to be the highlight of the year!
