PBMS Vision
PBMS strives to be a place where students want to come to school, parents want to send their children and staff want to come to work.
Message from the Principal
We have just 6 school days left in the first progress reporting period. Next Friday, teachers submit grades in PowerSchool for P1. This is just a snapshot of progress. It is NOT a final grade. Most students with a C or D or F have one or two MISSING assignments and can easily raise their grade to an A or B by just turning in the missing work. Please ask your child to show you their grades in PowerSchool this week to identify any issues. We have before and after school tutoring starting on Monday. Students can get specific help from teachers or just a quiet space to complete homework. Check this flyer for details. TUTORING No sign-ups needed, just show up.
Safety Drills: PBMS cycles through different safety drills to prepare staff & students in the event of an emergency. In August, we practiced a Fire Drill. This month, we will practice a Lock Down Drill. Prior to the drill, we will share the process and what to do in different situations because a lock down is used any time it is safer to keep students inside. The key is for students to remain calm, quiet and listen to the adults providing directions.
Back to School Night (BTSN): It was great to see so many families at BTSN. Here is a link to all of the classroom presentations 2024 PBMS BTSN. The link includes an introduction, the course syllabus, contact information and how to get help from each teacher. We also want your feedback and sent a Google form via text last Friday. You can also access the form here: BTSN Feedback. Your input helps make the PBMS experience better for you and your child.
LCFF Forms: Let's get to 100% completion of the LCFF form. We now have 85% submitted and will begin individual phone calls. The federal and state governments provide extra funding for students who may have additional needs. The allocation is determined by data collected in the LCFF form. This year, we funded a 3rd counselor! You can find access to the form in PowerSchool Parent Portal - but NOT using the APP (Sorry). Here is a link for more information LCFF FORM You can also reach out to Ms. Agejas at magejaschicharro@sandi.net for help. Thank you!
Student Events & Activities: The grade level Google classrooms are a great way for students to watch the Friday Features, learn about service opportunities and see what fun events are happening. Here are some of the events coming up. Ask your child to show you the classroom or help them sign up using the code in the section below.
- ASB Elections: As you may know, the ASB elections are coming up. All of our candidates for the election have created slides and/or videos to promote themselves. We'd like it if you would look over our slides and choose who you'd like to vote for. The elections will be this Friday, so you have some time to decide. Voting will be open from 8am to 1:20pm (start of 8th period), make sure to vote before the form closes! Thank you! Candidate Statements
- Future Bucs Night: Enjoy family fun at the MBHS football game tomorrow - and show your support for the Bucs by wearing black and gold tomorrow. See the flyer below for more details. Any student that is younger than high school age MUST be accompanied by an adult to enter the Future Buc Night football game on Friday, 9/13. Parents/guardians must understand that they are responsible for the group of students they are chaperoning/have with them. All students attending should be prepared to show their school ID at the gate.
- Start with Hello Week: Next week, we want to help bring attention to the growing epidemic of social isolation and empower young people at PBMS to create a culture of inclusion and connectedness! LINK
- Community Service: Don't Trash Mission Beach and the Mission Beach Town Council are hosting our annual September Beach Cleanup in conjunction with Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 21st from 8 AM to 12 PM at Belmont Park. These beach cleanups have been a fantastic opportunity for our local youth to not only get involved with cleaning up and giving back to our community but also to gather the needed community service hours that are required at the middle school and high school levels. We happily provide certification of the hours served during this event. Buckets, grabbers and gloves are always provided at our beach cleanups! FLYER
