High School Campus Updates
10th, 11th, and 12th grade students--
We want to offer the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) aptitude test as a tool to support students in planning postsecondary opportunities. Although the ASVAB is most often associated with the military, it is an assessment for students in grades 10th-12th to discover strengths and skills that will be helpful in choosing future career options. If you would like your scholar to participate in the assessment, please complete the Google form by 12/13/2024. Scores will not be reported to the Armed Forces; however, the test administration is done by members of the Armed Forces on our campus, and students interested in the military can connect with a recruiter.
Parents of High School Students who need the N.C. Driving Eligibility Certificate:
- When your student is ready for this form, please email Mrs. Simpson (margaretsimpson@cgsnc.org).
- You, as the parent, will need to make an appointment with Mrs. Gladden or Dr. Morris to come to the high school to fill out and sign your part of the form before it can be released.
- Reminder: once the form is dated, it will expire after 30 days.
Winter Break is approaching quickly. The week of 12/16-12/20 are early release days due to EOC testing. Transportation will not be provided at dismissal. All students must be picked up by 12:20 pm on the early release days. Please see the Fall Exam Schedule for details.
Seniors--
If you have not taken CERT, EMT, or Fire Safety in 9th-12th grade, you need CPR to complete graduation requirements. We are hosting a CPR course to meet graduation requirements for seniors 12/16-12/19 on the early release schedule. Please check your CGS email on Monday for your scheduled dates for CPR. Contact Coach Ward (mikeward@cgsnc.org) with questions.
ACC Updates
1) Advising and Registration Appointments:
We have a little over one month left of advising until our holiday break, any student that has not made an advising/registration appointment for Spring classes please contact Elizabeth Sutton. They can use this phone/ZOOM calendar link to schedule an advising/registration appointment:
https://calendar.app.google/tJ26yxLs1PDraiqz7
Students need to have had their advising and registration appointment and be registered for classes BEFORE the holiday break to ensure they are prepared when we return in the new year. Spring semester classes begin January 6th!
2) Checking Schedules in Self-Service:
If a student is unsure if they are registered for the classes they requested and need to know details such as dates, times, room numbers, and learning method, please encourage them to use Self-service to check their schedules and make sure they are registered!
If they state they don't know how to access, they can watch this video: https://www.loom.com/share/0e092c4d145d4f2bb998ce3d88d22beb?sid=8fd3bd23-e5e1-4700-9835-8889d8df35f8
If a student needs to make changes to their schedules, please reach out to Mrs. Elizabeth Sutton via email to request the change.
3) Waiting Lists:
If a student does not see a class that they registered for, they could be on the waitlist for it. Students, please check your ACC email every day and notify the CCP office if you receive a waitlist alert email. CCP staff have 24 hours from the time the email is initially sent to the student to register the student for the seat in the class.
4) ACC transition to more 8-week Classes:
As classes have been filling up, we are uncertain as to what additional sections will be available to students. Many of the 16-week class sections are full, and there is a shift within ACC to offer 8-week options as an alternative to the 16-week section. Please have students verify in Self-service the length of their class and the start and end dates. Additionally, note that ONLY 16-week classes have the 4-day grace period of drop/add without a WP (Withdraw Passing). Generally, if a student is taking an 8-week course, they only have the day of the class to drop without penalty.
Also to note is that 8 week classes generally move at a faster pace, so students should be aware that the class will move at a faster pace. If this is not a good option for a student who is currently registered for an 8-week, please reach out to see if there are other options.
5) New Student Deadlines:
New Student Applications for Spring classes are due by December 6th.
All new students will be encouraged to attend a New Student Orientation on December 5th at 5 pm OR January 3rd at 11:30 am.
Appreciatively,
Dr. Morris
High School Student Advising Information and Opportunities:
Dr. Morris will be meeting with students at the beginning of the second semester to share information on Career and College Promise (CCP) at ACC.
Elective Survey- Middle and High School Students
Parents of High School and Middle School Students,
We are actively planning our master schedule for next school year. This is the time of year where we are in the drafting stage of the master schedules for next school year and reviewing potential course offerings for our grizzlies. This week, your student will be given a survey to request elective options for next school year. We collect this data to see which courses to offer for the next school year based on student interest. Thank you for encouraging your student to complete the survey this upcoming week. Thank you!
