A message from Perkiomen Valley High School
Tonight we play our biggest rival in football, Spring-Ford. If you are planning on attending the game tonight at Spring-Ford please be aware that they require elementary and middle school students to be accompanied by their parent. Additionally, it is an ORANGE out! The gates will open at 5:45. Go Vikings.
There is no school for PVSD on October 9th due to a teacher inservice day and on October 11th we will be administering the PSATs here at the high school for those who pre-registered. This is an asynchronous day for those who are not testing. Students who are not testing must complete a google for for attendance.Oct 11 Attendance Form. This form will NOT be open to accept submissions until 7:30am on Oct 11. Please see below for more information regarding the PSATs.
As you are aware we do require our students to wear their ID during the school day. We ask for your assistance in ensuring that your child/children are meeting this expectation.

NMTCC October 9 and 11
PV does not have school on Oct 9 and 11 however there is still school at NMTCC. (October 11 is PSAT day and those who are scheduled to take that exam will be in person at the HS- all else will be asynchronous)
Transportation is provided for both AM and PM technical students to attend their session at NMTCC. Since there is no school at PVHS a bus will pick up our NMTCC students at their respective bus stops. Please check with your tech bus driver to find out more information.
Student IDs
Please remind your students that wearing their ID is not optional. IDs are a part of the our safety plan. Safety is of the utmost importance to us. We have approximately 2000 people in this building and need to be able to quickly identify students and staff.
PSATs
PSATs will be offered Wednesday, October 11, 2023 for 10th and 11th graders. The cost of the test is $25. This will be an asynchronous day for non-test takers. For test takers, transportation will be provided and lunch will be available for purchase.
Students who are taking the exam will report to school at the normal time. Testing will be completed around noon. Transportation will be provided. Students will have the opportunity to purchase lunch prior to dismissal. Our low incidence students in Ms. Roche and Mrs. Bialoboki's classes will attend the entire school day and all other students who are not testing will be asynchronous.
NMTCC Students:
- AM students who are taking the test will not attend their tech program for that day.
- AM students who are NOT taking the test will attend their tech program as they normally do.
- PM students who are taking the test will be bussed to their tech program from PVHS.
- PM students who are NOT taking the test will be bussed to their tech program from home.

Eligibility
ACTIVITY PARTICIPATION (Board Policy #123.1)
The Perkiomen Valley School District has stated that its primary mission is that of promoting excellence in all areas with academic excellence being of the highest priority. Therefore, it is the intent of this policy to help motivate students to approach their course work in a positive and assertive manner.
Students are subject to the guidelines established for determining their eligibility to participate in all co-curricular activities, such as, but not limited to: sports, band, plays, clubs, leadership roles (student council, executive council), and dances. An “Ineligible List” is printed every week to indicate which students may not participate in extracurricular activities due to poor academic performance or an outstanding debt.
In order to participate in school-sponsored athletic or activity events, students must maintain a passing average for the marking period in all scheduled subjects. A student’s average for every subject, at any given time, must be 60% or above for the student to be considered eligible. The eligibility list will be run every Friday. Students who are not passing every course with at least a 60% average will be placed on probation for one week/the following week. Students who are on probation who have not achieved a passing average in every course by the second will be deemed ineligible and will be ineligible for a period of one week, beginning on Sunday through Saturday. Students who have not passed all courses in the previous marking period shall be ineligible for 15 school days into the new marking period. Students with grade averages below a 60% in two or more courses will not be afforded a probationary period and will be declared ineligible
A student who is absent from school due to illness, suspension, or any circumstance deemed unexcused (tardy or absent) will be prohibited from participating in any school-sponsored activity the day of the absence. To be eligible to participate in practice, game, or co-curricular events, a student must report to school by 10:30 a.m. Exceptional reasons for which students may be excused must meet administrative approval. If a student leaves school during the day because of illness, the student may not participate that day or evening unless he/she/they has physician approval.
SPECIFIC PROVISIONS
Scholastic eligibility for all PIAA athletes and participants in extra-curricular and co-curricular school activities such as musical ensembles and clubs, shall be reported and enforced weekly and quarterly. Eligibility will be reported each Friday based on current marking period grade averages.
Students are expected to maintain a minimum grade average of 60% in all classes. In the event a student’s grade average in one course drops below 60% they will be notified and placed on a one week probationary period. Students are expected to seek assistance for the class/course during the probationary period and may still participate in PIAA sports or extra-curricular and co-curricular school activities.
For a student on probation who has not achieved a passing average (higher than 60%) by the second week, he/she/they will be ineligible for a period of one week and not permitted to participate in any PIAA sports or extra-curricular and co-curricular school activities beginning Sunday and extending to the following Saturday. Should a student be deemed eligible on the following Friday’s report, play and practice may resume on Sunday.
A student’s current average will be determined by the teacher, based on factors such as quiz and test grades, class participation, projects, notebooks, and other reasonable measures of achievement or effort. Incomplete grades due to sickness, injury, or prolonged excused absence shall not be averaged for eligibility purposes.
Students with grade averages below 60% in two or more courses will not be afforded a probationary period and will be declared ineligible.
Students who do not pass all of their courses by the conclusion of any one of the first three marking periods will be ineligible for a period of 15 school days during which they are expected to receive additional assistance from their teacher(s). Students who do not pass all of their courses for the school year will be ineligible for 15 school days into the next year. Students who successfully complete summer school to correct deficiencies from the end of the year shall be deemed eligible.
Students trying out for a sport or activity will not be excluded from “tryouts” for the first two weeks of practice due to ineligibility.
For activities such as a school play or musical, for which there is only a short period of performance (one weekend one time per school year), eligibility for the performance will be decided 4 weeks before the production occurs. Music ensembles, such as band, choir, orchestra, will follow the requirements for all PIAA sports and extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.
Special education students are also subject to this policy unless it is determined by the special education teacher and the mainstreamed teacher that the student’s failure is a result of the student’s disability and evident within the student’s I.E.P.
Charter and Cyber charter school students’ participation and eligibility shall be governed by applicable state law and by Board Policy #140.1
Exceptions
If a student is eligible at the time of registration and deposit for any trip or activity that requires advanced registration and deposit, such as Wallops Island and the band trip, she/he/they will remain eligible.
No students are declared academically ineligible for the prom, winter ball, or homecoming. Students will not be considered for the courts if they are on the ineligibility list. However, if they were eligible at the time of selection of the court, even if their name appeared on the list during the week of the event, they may participate.
Students may attend dances and they may be spectators at athletic events regardless of their current eligibility status

NCAA has specific requirements for student's who wish to participate in college athletics. Please refer to the NCAA Handbook for all of the information that you will need.
Safety in the Stadium
From Dr. Russell:
The beginning of the school year is a very exciting time. Not only are students meeting new teachers, engaging in new coursework, and making new friends, there are lots of activities to participate in and events to attend onsite. As our fall athletic contests get underway, the district would like to review several safety measures it has in place pertaining to events held in Thomas J. Keenan Stadium.
When an athletic or Marching Band event is held in the stadium, the district requires all elementary and middle level students to be accompanied by an adult. No attendees are permitted to bring backpacks into the stadium. In the event someone happens to have a backpack with them, they will be asked to place the bag along the fence until the respective owner exits the stadium. There is no food or drink permitted to be brought in from the outside.
Attendees will continue to observe school security guards onsite during events and, as the year progresses, will likely begin to observe Perkiomen Valley School District school police officers in attendance as well. The school police will also be in and around our facilities, districtwide.
The efforts of the school district are to keep our students, staff, and community safe. Powder Puff Game Nov 14
Our annual Powderpuff Game will take place Nov 14 in our stadium Junior and Senior girls interested in participating should plan to attend one of the two meetings: Tuesday, October 3rd OR Thursday, October 5th in room 218 at 2:40 pm. Please see Ms. Sorber or Ms. Dougherty if you are interested in playing but cannot attend one of the meetings.

With the end of the Public Health Emergency in May 2023, the COVID-19 reporting and isolation protocol was discontinued. There are no longer quarantine or isolation protocols for those who test positive for the COVID-19 virus. When sick, people are encouraged to remain home. If a fever is present, they must remain home and are not permitted to return until fever-free, without fever-reducing medication, for 24-hours. Please reach out to your family doctor or pediatrician as needed.
National Honor Society
Letters for students eligible to be inducted during the 2023-2024 school year will be sent via school email to students on Thursday, September 21, 2023. Students will be told of how to apply in that letter. Applications will open on Friday, September 22, 2023. Applications will be due Friday, October 6, 2023. Power Packs
Power Packs are weekend bags of food for students experiencing food insecurity. The bags include 2 breakfast items, 2 lunch items, 2 snacks, and 2 fruits. All food is non-perishable. There is no financial information required to participate in this program.
PV Power Packs is a volunteer run organization and all information is kept confidential. Names are shared with school counselors who arrange for students to pick up their bags prior to every weekend.
Please fill out a separate form for each child that you would like to receive a Power Pack, including children not yet in school.
We will begin handing out Power Packs on September 8th. If your child received Power Packs last year, they will automatically receive them this year.

Working Papers
Working Papers can be issued if a student between the ages of 14 to 18 is applying for a job and working papers have not yet been issued. Working papers are required by the State of Pennsylvania until a student is 18 years old. ASVAB
If students are encouraged in pursuing the armed forces, or are looking for some guidance on what career path may be right for them, they are strongly encouraged to to take the ASVAB exam. The ASVAB can help your student: Learn about themselves and the world of work, explore occupations in line with their interests and skills, and develop an effective strategy to realize their career and education goals. Additionally, if passed, it can fulfill a student’s graduation pathways (Act 158), if they were not successful on their Keystone exams. It is being offered this November 8th, and permission slips are due in the counseling center by 10/25. Financial Aid Night
The Counseling Center will be hosting its annual Financial Aid Night on Tuesday, October 17th from 7-8:30pm in the high school auditorium. Michael Burke, a representative from PHEAA, will be presenting on all information regarding financial aid, such as scholarships, grants, loans, etc.
FAFSA Completion Night
The Counseling Center will be hosting its annual FAFSA Completion Night on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 6-8pm in the high school library. This year, FAFSA opens up in December 2023. Representatives from Montgomery County Community College will be available to answer your questions. Please bring your computer/laptop.

Our students can submit an anonymous tip through the Safe2Say Program. Tips are typically related to a variety of challenges our students experience or witness, such as bullying, harassment, disrespectful language, safety concerns, etc. When a tip is received, the State (who runs Safe2Say) immediately follows up with building administrators

When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.

Senior Trip
Disney Trip for the Class of 2024 !!! The 2nd payment in the amount of $365 is now overdue. Please submit your payment either in ParentVue, or via cash or check to the main office. Parents/guardians can access all things Disney right here which includes the optional trip insurance information.
The next payment is due by Friday, October 20th in the amount of $365.
