OLHMS Veterans Day Assembly

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, World War I finally concluded. Armistice Day, or more commonly known as Veterans Day, is celebrated on November 11th each year to honor those men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Net Warriors: Boys' Volleyball SETS the Bar for OLHMS

The OLHMS boys' volleyball team is serving up quite the season under the direction of coaches Mike Fisher and Moises Lopez. The 8th grade team stands at 3rd place with a (5-1) record, just right behind Evergreen (6-0) and Palos (6-0).

Watch Out World, Petschenko's Preschoolers are Becoming Expert Arborists!

Preschoolers embarked on a journey of becoming arborists. They explored and appreciated nature throughout their recent Tree Study. By intertwining literacy, math, social studies, art, technology and science principles student and they even delivered their very first public speaking presentation!

Bear Booth- take two!!!

Last Friday, Hannum Bears were able to visit the Bear Booth for the second time this year. Excitement and anticipation ran high for the students. Many students saved Bear Bucks from the first visit to purchase something the second time around.

Thank You Veterans!

On Thursday, November 9, Hometown Elementary School invited Veterans from the community to attend our annual Veteran's Day Assembly. This assembly is a way for the students to thank our local service men and women. The program began with a tribute to our soldiers from our chorus.

Kolmar Kindergarteners Visit Brookfield Zoo

A few weeks ago the Kolmar kindergarteners took their first field trip to Brookfield Zoo. They are learning about living and nonliving things in science and they also have been learning about different animal habitats, so the zoo was the perfect place to tie it all together!

Honoring Sward's Veterans

On Friday November 10th, Sward School's Student Council organized a completely student-led Veteran's Day assembly. Mrs. Katalinic and Mrs. Coennan, Sward's Student Council sponsors helped students prepare for this wonderful assembly weeks ahead of time. Mrs. Glikis and the Sward School Chorus performed the Star Spangled Banner as well as the Armed Forces songs.

Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 Middle School Media Center Recognized for Design

The Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 Middle School (OLHMS) Media Center Renovation project is being recognized by the Illinois Association of School Boards and will be featured as one of 21 projects statewide at the 2023 Joint Annual Conference of Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) / Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA) / Illinois Association of School Business Officials (IASBO).

District 123 Demonstrates Encouraging Progress on ISBE Annual School Report Card

On October 30th the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released data used to evaluate all K-12 public schools in Illinois, including School District 123. The yearly Report Card data offers an in-depth look at the advancement of our schools in various areas including academics, attendance, school climate, and finance.
