April 2024
A Message From the Principal
Lakeridge Families,
I would like to open with a huge thank you to everyone who attended our “walk around” conferences last Tuesday. It was wonderful to see so many families participate in this wonderful event. Our Hawks are making strong academic gains this year. I hope everyone who attended had the opportunity to talk to teachers to learn where their child is excelling, areas for growth and most importantly get a feel for your child’s classroom learning experience.
Third quarter grades have been completed and are available on Skyward. These grades represent a “formal progress report” towards students’ overall second semester grades. It also signals that there are only 9 weeks left in the school year to make changes for the final 2nd semester grades. During Advisory this year, students have been monitoring their grades weekly and have been setting goals about their academic progress. You can ask your child to show you his/her report. Also please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teachers or counselor if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you again for all your support and partnering with LMS staff to provide all our Hawks an emotionally safe, socially civil and academically productive learning environment. We appreciate you.
The following is some important information to keep you “in the know”.
Spring Break: April 8-12
There will be no school next week for Spring Break. Classes will resume on April 15.
State Testing
Later this month our Hawks will begin the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) in math and English language arts. Students in grades 5 and 8 will also take the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS). Students will take all parts of the assessment online. The math and language arts assessments are administered in two parts; a computer adaptive test (CAT) and a performance task (PT).
The testing schedule for LMS students is as follows:
WCAS- April 23 - 26
SBA ELA CAT- April 30 - May 3
SBA Math CAT- May 7 & 8
SBA Math PT- May 9 & 10
SBA ELA PT- May 14 - 17
Assessment Make-Ups - May 20 - 24

Parent Review Night
Washington State law requires that every student receives HIV/AIDs prevention education in grades 5 through 12. Because this unit covers sensitive topics, Washington State law and SBLSD board policy require that parents/families are provided the opportunity to preview these lessons.
The Sumner-Bonney Lake School District (SBLSD) is hosting a curriculum night for families to preview the HIV/AIDS prevention curriculum for students enrolled in the following:
6th and 7th grade students (HIV/AIDS),
2nd semester 8th grade Skills for Life (HIV/AIDS) and
9th grade Health classes (Health content), and
Applicable 10th through 12th grade classes (HIV/AIDS).
The curriculum will be available for preview. This is an opportunity for parents and guardians to understand the health content for grades 6-12, preview teaching materials and ask questions about the resources used in the classroom.
