Holladay, Where the Arts Come Alive
September Newsletter
Message from the Principal
It Fall Y'all
Dear Holladay Families,
What a vibrant start to the school year! We’ve already shared some fantastic moments that have truly made us fall in love with Holladay all over again. In August, we kicked off the year with Meet the Teacher and had a Rockin' Red Carpet on our first day! We had a successful Pizza with the Principal event with dozens of participants, and even more successful Title I Art Night with over 140 people in attendance. This year, we added P.E. enrichment and a Flag Football team to our after school programming. It has been a wonderfully busy stary. I would like to extend thanks to everyone who attended all of our events. I would even like to shout out our PTO who has already raised almost $700.00!
These events have painted a colorful beginning to our year, and we’re thrilled to continue adding to our masterpiece with even more exciting activities to come.Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm. Together, we’re making this year vibrant and memorable for all our students!
With love and excitement,
Principal Humphries-Gholson

Attendance Goal: 95%
Help us Reach out Goal - 95%
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR CLASSES WHO ARE AT OR ABOVE 95% ATTENDANCE!
Attendance is crucial in the early years of education, especially in K-5, as it lays the foundation for a child’s academic success and social development. When students attend school regularly, they build strong learning habits, stay engaged with their studies, and benefit from the consistent support of their teachers and peers.
In a small school like ours, every student's presence makes a difference. Our goal is 95% attendance, and because we are a close-knit community, even one student's absence can significantly impact our ability to reach that target. When everyone is present, we create a vibrant, connected learning environment where all students can thrive together.
By prioritizing attendance, we ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed and contribute to our school’s positive, collaborative atmosphere. Let’s work together to make every day count!
Reading Goal
10-20 minutes a day
Many parents have asked me what they can be doing to support their child' at home. My answer:
Increased Reading Time
We all know the power of reading. Encouraging your child to read each day, even if it's just for a few minutes, can open up new worlds and foster a lifelong love of learning. Set a goal as a family to read together, explore new books, and share stories. Visit a local library. These small moments can create lasting memories and build strong foundations for academic success.
School Culture Goals
Social Emotional Goal
At school, our students are learning and practicing essential life skills like Kindness, Perseverance, Conflict Resolution, and Goal Setting with their school buddies. These values are not just important in the classroom but also in everyday life. Here’s how you can echo these messages at home:
Kindness: Encourage your child to perform small acts of kindness, like helping with chores or writing a kind note to a family member. Discuss how being kind makes others feel and how it builds positive relationships.
Perseverance: When your child faces a challenge, remind them of the importance of sticking with it, even when things get tough. Celebrate their efforts and progress, no matter how small, to reinforce that perseverance leads to success.
Conflict Resolution: Teach your child to talk through conflicts calmly and to listen to others’ perspectives. Role-play different scenarios where they can practice resolving disagreements peacefully.
Goal Setting: Help your child set achievable goals, whether it’s completing homework, learning a new skill, or improving a habit. Discuss the steps needed to reach these goals and celebrate milestones along the way.
By reinforcing these values at home, you help your child develop the skills they need to thrive both in school and in life. Together, we can nurture well-rounded, resilient, and compassionate individuals.
REMINDERS
Beginning of the Year Testing
This is a quick reminder that our students will be taking the iReady diagnostic assessments through September 13th. These assessments help us understand your child’s individual learning needs and guide our instruction throughout the year.
Please encourage your child to do their best, get plenty of rest, and arrive at school on time. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Dojo!
Please talk to your child(s)' teacher about being added to dojo. Dojo is our primary communications system. We also use it to provide our students points for positive behavior.
Technology Check Out
Parents, please be on the lookout for your technology contract. Every student has been assigned to a device. Each family is responsible for their student(s) chromebook or iPad. This includes financial responsibility if lossed or damaged.
