FAFSA NEWS - DON'T FEAR THE FAFSA!
The holiday break is the best time to complete your FAFSA
Students and parents can start The FAFSA (Free Application For Student Aid) by creating their FSA ID. In some cases, once your FSA ID is created there may be a few day waiting period before you're able to start the form for the system to verify your identity.
Check out the College and Career Website for TIPS to avoid problems when submitting the form.
Students must enter their parents' personal information to invite them to complete the form, making the holidays a great time to complete the form, when you're all together. Click here for a checklist of the information needed.
Visit StudentAid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch to create an FSA ID.
Come to the College and Career Center for assistance any or every step of the way!

PCC Foundation Scholarship is Now Open!
Students who are considering Portland Community College are encouraged to apply for the Foundation Scholarship. PCC offers this scholarship to many students who attend any program at PCC. The application is due February 1st and involves a few brief essay questions. Apply on the PCC website and come to the College and Career Center if you need help. 1/3 GE Reagan Foundation Scholarship $10,000
College-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship.
1/10 Pride Foundation Scholarships
LGBTQ leaders living in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Montana.
1/11 Latino Scholarship Program
High school seniors in Oregon or Clark County, WA of Hispanic ancestry. Applicants evaluated on academics, extra-curricular, community service, essays, and letters of recommendation.
1/15 Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund
Eligible applicants are high school seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.7. The application is open to students worldwide.
1/15 First Tech Scholarship $5,000
First Tech Credit Union Members (student must have their own banking account) can apply for one of 12 scholarships.
1/17 John F. Kennedy Profiles in Courage Essay $10,000
Essay of 700-1000 words describing and analyzing an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1917. Must be US citizen
1/18 Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship $30,000
Minority students with leadership potential and demonstrated financial need.
1/30 Digital Responsibility Technology Addiction Awareness Scholarship $1,000
This contest has two stages. The first is an essay on "Instead of spending time with technology, I'd rather . . .". The second stage is to write an essay on digital addiction.
1/31 DAR Good Citizen Program $300
Oregon of the Oregon State Society Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors this scholarship Demonstrates good citizenship
Current and retired members of unions and their dependents can apply for this scholarship as long as they have been a member for a year.
1/31 Dr. Aura-Lee A. Pittenger and James Hobbs Pittenger American History (DAR) American history studies $2,000
This award is intended to promote the study of our country's history among our finest students. U.S. Citizens residing abroad may apply through a Units Overseas Chapter.

1/31 Lucinda Beneventi Findley History Scholarship (DAR) History major $2,000 3.25 Awarded to two graduating seniors demonstrating an interest in history and planning to pursue the study of history in college. Apply online at DAR.org
1/31 Madeline Pickett (Halbert) Cogswell Nursing Scholarship (DAR) $2,500
Applicants must be members, descendant of members or be eligible for membership in NSDAR. The DAR member number of the mother, grandmother or step-mother, who is a current dues paying member, must be on the application.
1/31 Lillian and Arthur Dunn Scholarship (DAR) $2,500
Scholarship awarded for up to four years to well-qualified, deserving sons and daughters of members of the NSDAR. Outstanding recipients will be considered for an additional period of up to four years of study. Must include DAR member number.
1/31 Caroline E. Holt Nursing Scholarship. $2,500
Three awards to students who are in financial need and have been accepted to an accredited school of nursing. A letter of acceptance into a nursing program must be included with the application.
1/31 Richard and Elizabeth Dean Scholarship (DAR) $5,000 (renewable)
The Richard and Elizabeth Dean Scholarship awards two scholarships in the preferred amount of $5,000 each year for up to four consecutive years to graduating high school students. The selection process shall be based on academic merit with an initial minimum GPA of 4.0. Scholarship is renewable as long as student maintains a 3.25 college GPA.
1/31 Black United Fund Scholarships
African/African American students with academic standing, financial need, school participation, and community service activities, oral and written performance. Additional scholarships are given for attendance at the following specific colleges: Lewis & Clark College , Pacific University- Forest Grove, Reed College, University of Portland, Warner Pacific College, and Willamette University. Seven scholarships exist within the BUF-OR application and requirements vary depending on the scholarship a student is applying for.
1/31 Courage to Grow Scholarship $500

OHSU UNIVERSITY CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE IN DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES The UCEDD - 2025 Summer Internship Program
Every summer the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) Summer Internship Program provides opportunities for high school or early college-age students to gain experience in the disability field, develop transferrable skills, and learn about various career paths in health care. This internship is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a career in health care, specifically with a focus on disability. Join the Youth Conservation Program
In partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, MobilizeGreen will offer residential Youth Conservation Program (YCP) programs in the summer of 2025 for diverse young people between the ages of 15 and 18 years of age. The MobilizeGreen-Forest Service YCP is a three-week summer residential program where members live and work together as a team. YCP Members are introduced to conservation-related projects together during the day and participate in environmental education, leadership and personal development lessons, and outdoor recreation activities during the evenings and weekends. The YCP experience is unique and can create memories and friendships that last a lifetime. Our goal is to introduce youth from diverse, urban, and rural backgrounds to nature and the environmental field. Weekly Stipend is $375 per week and equipment scholarships are available.
Previously our crews have served in Superior National Forest, San Bernardino National Forest, and several others. Our Youth Conservation Program application deadline has been extended!
The application deadline for our summer Youth Conservation Programs has been extended past December 2nd. You can now apply until January 31st, 2025 for both our in-person and online paid youth summer internships.

Jobs: Odd jobs or work if you are under 16
Many companies will slow down their hiring process after the holiday rush. If you're needing work, or under the age of 16, try tapping into your neighborhood. Some ideas include:
- Providing services to watch houses, dogs, take in mail while families are out of town. Some have last minute needs!
- Providing services to take down holiday decorations.
- Providing babysitting services - many parents want some time off to shop or enjoy the holiday.
How to spread the word? You'll need to market yourself. Here are some ideas:
- Create a flyer to pass around to neighbors (neighboring apartments or houses). Find an example HERE
- Create an account on Nextdoor.com - (you may need parent permission) Post a jpeg copy of your flyer and/or resume with a brief description of yourself.
- Create a LinkedIn teen account - very professional! you can link this account to your resume or on your Nextdoor post.
