As we move into the warmer summer months here in Florida, please take a moment to remind your child about the importance of staying hydrated. Our children are especially vulnerable to heat-related illnesses, and proper hydration plays a key role in keeping them safe and healthy.
Whether your child is attending summer programs, playing outside, or participating in sports, please encourage them to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Dehydration can happen quickly in the Florida heat and may lead to fatigue, headaches, dizziness, and more serious health issues, if left unchecked.
Here are a few simple tips to help your child stay hydrated:
- Alway carry a refillable water bottle
- Encourage them to take water breaks often, even if they don’t feel thirsty
- Choose water over sugary or caffeinated drinks
- Pack fruits with high water content, like watermelon, oranges, grapes as snacks
At the Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) board meeting recently, it was announced that BCPS will be discontinuing its universal free lunch program at the conclusion of this school year.
You may read more about this development in the Sun-Sentinel article linked below:
Sun-Sentinel: Broward School District to End Universal Free Lunches, Raise Lunch Prices
We are clarifying that Franklin Academy’s lunch program operates independently of BCPS and will continue offering free meals for the upcoming school year. Our Broward campuses remain eligible for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) and are approved by the National School Lunch Program to provide free meals through the 2026–2027 school year.
As our current CEP cycle nears its conclusion, we will assess our student data to determine whether we can qualify for an additional four-year cycle.
Thank you for your continued support.
Stay informed and start planning ahead!
The construction on the land to the east of our campus
has already begun.
Here is what you can expect during our students' break:
Parking Lot and Traffic Flow Improvements
- Reconfiguration of parking lots and arrival/dismissal stacking lanes; with buses and car lines switching sides.
- Improved parking lot lighting.
- The redesigned car line will be significantly longer to reduce traffic congestion on Pines Blvd. We are committed to continuing our collaboration with the City of Pembroke Pines and our neighbors to minimize traffic disruptions.
Expanded Play Space
- Almost two (2) additional acres of grass, expanding our play space enough for a regulation soccer field which will enable us to host middle school athletic games for the first time.
- An Improved drainage system to enhance the maintenance of both the new and existing play areas.
New Outdoor Basketball Courts
- We are finalizing plans to add additional outdoor basketball courts, some of which will be covered to provide shaded play areas.
We are excited about these improvements and remain committed to enhancing the learning environment and facilities for our students. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work through these campus updates.
