DMS Halloween Dance & Haunted Hallway
DMS Scares The Fun Out Of You!
On Friday, October 27th, Student Council held its annual Halloween Dance in the middle school cafeteria. This year also marked the return of the Haunted Hallway. Student volunteers acted as scary clowns, evil asylum doctors and patients, along with creepy living dolls. Over 200 middle schoolers enjoyed a night of dancing, food, drinks, and scary good fun. Mr. Carlino, Mr. Teresa, Student Council Officers and volunteers made the night a great event that was enjoyed by those in attendance. Student Council would like to thank the teachers and parents who volunteered to chaperone.

Halloween at DMS
Student Council encouraged students at the middle school to show their Halloween Spirit by dressing up for the day. Many students took advantage of the idea and dressed in unique, scary and group themed costumes. During all lunches, Student Council sponsored the annual Halloween Parade of Costumes. Students were judged by teachers and staff in attendance for the top three costumes. The selections were made based on costumes that showed originality and creativity, along with being as accurate to the character as possible. The winners all received prizes for their efforts.

W.E.B. Wednesday
This month's W.E.B. Wednesday activities focused on the character trait of gratitude. We looked for ways to show thanks and appreciation for others as well as learning to reframe our own thinking in a way that shows positivity and gratitude.
6th Grade Gratitude Letters
The 6th grade class showed thanks and gratitude this past WEB Wednesday by creating thank you letters to a staff member that has made a difference in our lives. We were allowed to choose staff from previous years or this year to write to. The goal of this was to show gratitude or appreciation for what they have done for us.
Web Wednesdays are amazing. I always look forward to them and can't wait until that day comes. We always do fun activities. The WEB leaders come into our room and explain the activity to us. They always let us use our own ideas instead of them telling us what to do and how to do it. They are always willing to help us if we need it. I really liked last month's WEB Wednesday, we did cup stacking but we needed to have two people and we couldn’t touch the cup with our hands, we had to use string. It was super challenging but it was super fun as well. The fun we have is one of the reasons why I love WEB Wednesday.

7th & 8th Grade - Flip your Mindset
Students in 7th and 8th grade were given a gratitude task where they anonymously wrote 3 complaints they identified in their lives. The complaints were collected and then passed out to other students in the classroom. Students took the time to flip the complaints that were given to them into something positive. They were then read out loud to the class and we had a discussion about how we can find the positive in any situation in life. We also talked about why we should be grateful for the things we have in our lives.

Depew Grad Shares her Experiences in Spain!
Sarah Kurdziel, a 2021 Depew graduate, came to some of Mrs. Thomas´ 8th Grade Spanish classes to talk about the study abroad experience she had in Spain last summer. Sarah is currently doing some of her junior observations at Depew Middle and High Schools for her teacher preparation at Buffalo State University. She shared many photos and videos of her experiences with the 8th grade classes. Students enjoyed hearing about the food, art and customs in Spain from Sarah.¨
Creating Faces in Mrs. Mercuri’s Math class!
We did an assignment in Mrs. Mercuri’s 8th grade math class where we connected art and math by solving multi-step equations with different solutions! We used many different types of solutions while solving this awesome activity! If we struggled we could use our foldables to help us solve them. Once we solved the equations we got to color! After we solved the equations it would give a characteristic to draw and create the face. For example if x = -3 it would use a characteristic a thick mustache for the face. We then used our creativity to color and make our face unique in design. We then had a contest judged by another teacher and winners were given prizes!
