Good morning PJMS community,

During the week of March 24th-March 28th MSBSD is promoting Safety Week! Safety Week provides an opportunity for students, school staff, and community members to participate in activities, events, and conversations regarding issues affecting school safety.

Whether it is getting students to develop evacuation plans for their homes or how to dress properly for outdoor conditions, Safety Week is an opportunity to discuss many topics, customizable to your school or student needs. Some ideas to get the ball rolling:

• Encourage staff, students and community to check out the STOPit! app
• Remind your school community about See It, Stop It
• Invite one or more professionals in law enforcement, mental health, social work, or health care to educate students about the negative impact of substance and alcohol abuse in minors.
• Invite parents and news media to your school to highlight the positive things at school that students are doing to prevent violence.
• Organize a youth roundtable on student safety. Encourage students to share their safety ideas with school administration.
• Invite first responders to make presentations to students on personal safety, fire safety, or transportation safety.
• Celebrate Everyday Heroes. Have students nominate staff or peers that have been helpful above and beyond good citizenship. Announce the nominees and have recognition for them. Consider reaching out to a local business to donate prizes or food.

I know with your help and commitment we as a district can raise awareness about important safety considerations in our communities. A list of community resources is linked here.

Semester 2 clubs are: Chess, Cooking, D&D, Drama, Ham Radio, Magic the Gathering, Marksmanship, Weightlifting, & Study Hall (free). If your student wants to participate in an afterschool club, they can pick up a blue club paper from the office to fill out and you can pay $20 in School Pay. Girls' 6th grade Volleyball and Boys Club Volleyball are our current sports.
