HTMS Students Enjoy Spring Break Trip
Our students have had an unforgettable journey exploring two of the most historic and vibrant cities in America! Here’s a recap of our incredible adventure:
📍 Day 1 – Washington, D.C.
We kicked off our trip with visits to the Capitol Building, Supreme Court, and Library of Congress, followed by a powerful experience at the Holocaust Museum. We ended the night at the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial, where students placed papers in memory of the victims—tributes created by HTMS sixth graders earlier this year during their 9/11 study.
📍 Day 2 – Washington, D.C.
We started the day at Arlington National Cemetery, witnessing the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier—a moving experience of honor and tradition. Our journey continued with a tour of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, a visit to the FBI Experience, and lunch at the Reagan International Trade Center. We wrapped up the day with dinner at the legendary Ben’s Chili Bowl before touring D.C.'s iconic monuments including the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, and Korean War Memorial.
📍 Day 3 – D.C. to New York City
We left D.C. early, made a stop in Delaware, and arrived in NYC just in time for an unforgettable Yankees vs. Brewers game! We witnessed three home runs in three pitches and saw the Yankees set a new franchise record of nine home runs in a game! After dinner at Uno’s Pizzeria, we strolled through Central Park to soak in the city’s energy.
📍 Day 4 – Exploring NYC
Our NYC adventure continued with a walking tour of the Brooklyn Bridge, a visit to the 9/11 Memorial, and stops in Chinatown, Little Italy, Trinity Church, and Wall Street, where we saw the famous Charging Bull. We took a boat to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, stepping back in time to understand the immigrant experience in the early 1900s and after World War II. We ended the night in the dazzling lights of Times Square, dining at the lively Ellen’s Stardust Diner.
📍 Day 5 – Last Day in NYC
We wrapped up our journey at Grand Central Station before heading to Rockefeller Center, where students even recreated the famous "Lunch Atop a Skyscraper" photo from the 6th grade Industrialization unit! After lunch beneath the Rock, we visited the Natural History Museum and Hayden Planetarium before flying home.
Young Authors in Action
Mrs. Trowbridge’s kindergarten class at Paine Elementary explored the world of animal homes through our literacy curriculum! Using PebbleGo, students selected an animal, researched independently, and wrote their very own books!
Each book includes details about the animal’s habitat, diet, and a fun fact—plus a table of contents! To celebrate their hard work, students proudly read their books aloud to the class.
We are so proud of these young researchers and authors!
