Week in Review...
We've had some engaging Connected North sessions this past week! Our visiting teacher was in Australia and we reviewed the human body. He had some cool models to help explain how our bodies function!
We focused our attention on respect at school. We learned what that meant and how to reveal it to others. We tied in the Dene Laws: "Be respectful of Elders and everything around you" and "be polite and don't argue with anyone" and "young girls and boys should behave respectfully". We worked through some social emotional activities on the subject and also played a board game. This is in support of school wide approach to supporting acceptable behaviours and in support of our Kindness Challenge initiative.
On Wednesday we revealed respect and admiration of our Elders in the community by making local fish, veggies, and homemade cranberry and orange muffins. We delivered them to our beloved Elders at the end of the day on Wednesday.
Thursday was Halloween and like always, students had some fun at school and then went to Hay River to trick or treat. Fun was had by all!!
Friday, we completed our short stories. Some are 4 pages typed!! We will start play writing/screen writing on Monday. These stories will be published in this year's Yearbook and Literary Magazine which will be given out during our End of Year Awards Ceremony and Concert.
Looking Ahead...this Week's Activities
This week we have a range of cool sessions planned! Monday, we are continuing our indigenous art lessons with the support of Healther Endall. On Tuesday we will learn about the role of RCMP and what their jobs entail with our RCMP on Patrol series.
Career Week will be different this year as last year students shadowed and interviewed personnel at the Band Office which was an amazing experience for the students!! We won't devote a whole week to learning about jobs. What we will be doing instead is having days or sessions devoted to learning about a wide range of professions.
Their first full day will take place on November 6th, where they will meet different people doing different careers to get a sense of the different jobs that are available. This should be a fun and super informative day! It's a Canada wide opportunity, too!!
On Thursday and Friday we will be devoting time to learning about World War I.
Monday, November 11th is a holiday (Remembrance Day) and Tuesday, November 12th is a full STIP Day.
