September is Attendance Awareness Month
From our School Social Worker, Ms. Kaitlyn Lynch
Keep Your Child On Track in School: Pay Attention to Attendance
Showing up for school has an extreme impact on a student’s overall performance and lifelong success. As students gain more independence, it is still imperative that families play a role in encouraging attendance.
What can you do? Help your child stay engaged
- Find out if your student feels engaged by their classes and feels supported and safe in the school environment.
- Monitor your child’s academic progress and seek help from teachers or tutors when necessary. Communicate any concerns.
- Stay on top of your child’s social contacts. Peer pressure can lead to skipping school, while students without many friends can feel isolated.
- Encourage your child to join meaningful school activities, including sports and clubs.
- Communicate any barriers your student may encounter throughout the academic year. We are here to support you!
Questions about the Attendance Policy? Visit www.cambridgehs.org > Students and Families > Attendance Guidelines.
College and Career
College Application Help Sessions
Cambridge Counselors will be available to assist seniors with college applications during both lunch periods every Tuesday, starting September 10 through December 3, 2024. The help sessions will be held in room 2700.
College Application Process and Transcripts
1. Application and Transcripts:
Use Common Application, the college’s own website, or Coalition for application and requesting transcripts. Many of the college application platforms mentioned will allow the school counselor to upload your high school transcript. Therefore, students will not need to request a transcript for those platforms only.
For non-Common App colleges, students have to request transcripts via ScribOrder and have it sent directly to the college or scholarship organization electronically.
2. Transcript Release Date:
All official transcripts will be released starting on September 6, 2024.
If you need a transcript before that date, please go to Infinite Campus and get an unofficial copy to send to your college.
3. Senior Biography Sheet
In addition, counselors also need a copy of the Senior Biography Sheet completed by each senior on file in order to send any documents (transcripts, school forms, letter of recommendation). This form can be downloaded at the link below or picked up at Bridge West.
4. Deadlines:
Cambridge counselors and teachers require ten school days notice to process transcript requests, school forms, and letters of recommendations. Weekends and holidays are excluded. Please send your requests ten school days ahead of the deadline or earlier.
Students have to abide by the college’s application deadline published on their admission webpage to submit their part. Counselors and teachers can have a different deadline to follow (example: UGA Student deadline October 15, Materials deadline October 29).
