A WORD FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear Woodside Parents and Guardians,
As we embark on another school year, I want to emphasize the importance of strong communication between home and school. When we work together, we can create a consistent and supportive environment that helps your child thrive both academically and personally. Here’s why maintaining regular communication is so important:
Building Trust and Partnership
When we stay in touch regularly, it builds trust and creates a strong partnership between us. Your involvement in your child’s education is invaluable, and your insights into their strengths, challenges, and background help us tailor our approach to best support them.
Supporting Academic Achievement
Keeping you informed about your child’s academic progress and any upcoming assignments is key to their success. By reinforcing what they’re learning at school with your support at home, we can help them perform their best and gain confidence in their abilities.
Addressing Behavioral and Social Concerns
Consistency between home and school expectations is crucial for your child’s development. Regular communication allows us to address any behavioral or social concerns early on, ensuring that we can work together to support your child in the best way possible.
Enhancing Emotional and Social Support
Your child’s emotional and social well-being is just as important as their academic success. By staying in touch, we can ensure that your child feels supported both at home and at school, and we can address any emotional challenges they may be facing, such as anxiety or peer pressure.
Encouraging Student Accountability
When students know that we are in regular communication, they are more likely to take responsibility for their actions and performance. This accountability helps them stay on track and make positive choices.
Promoting a Positive School Climate
Your involvement and communication with the school contribute to a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone. Whether it’s attending parent-teacher conferences, participating in school activities, or just staying informed, your engagement strengthens our school community.
Supporting Transitions and Milestones
Key transitions, like moving to a new grade or preparing for high school, can be challenging for students. By keeping open lines of communication, we can help your child navigate these milestones with confidence and ease.
Conclusion
In closing, I want to encourage you to maintain regular communication with us throughout the school year. Together, we can provide the best possible support for your child’s academic and personal growth. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to check in. Your partnership is essential, and I’m excited to work with you to make this a successful year for your child.
Thank you for your continued support!
Warm regards,
Amado Pérez-Chávez

Estimados Padres y Tutores,
Cordialmente,

Welcome back to the Art Room, Woodside Families!
We are already off to an exciting start to the year in our Art Room. I will once again be posting our art projects on the digital portfolio website Artsonia, which lets us share the Artwork with friends and relatives far away. Keep an eye out for an email from Artsonia, it's not spam! If you created an account in previous years you do not have to do anything at this moment except wait for your student to finish their first project. If you have not accepted membership to Artsonia, please check it out before deleting! No personal information is shared on the site.
I look forward to working with your children and am always impressed and amazed to see how they grow, change and create over the course of the school year. I hope you will always feel welcome in the art room and that you enjoy all the masterpieces that the 2024-2025 school year will bring! If you have any questions feel free to email me at evinkm@westottawa.net

Mrs. Kim Huls 2nd Grade Teacher
West Ottawa family!
If I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you, my name is Kim Huls. I teach 2nd grade at Woodside and I'm a WO grad myself! I serve as our West Ottawa Education Association (WOEA) Membership Chair.
Each month, we send out a newsletter to our membership. This serves as an update on some WO happenings and a chance to highlight some of membership. I'm attaching this month's newsletter to this email so you can see a preview of what it looks like. Our building representative elections are coming up, so the ARs listed are outdated from last year. Stay tuned for those to be updated next month. :)
If you're interested in joining the WOEA and you have any questions, I would love to talk with you more! Please feel free to reach out to my personal email (cc-ed on this email: kimberlyjhuls@gmail.com) or text my Google Voice number: (616)-795-9935.
Joining is quick and easy at mea.org/join and there are many benefits to membership. Our new (awesome!!) contract is a result of the hard work that our WOEA team has put in and positive collaboration with our wonderful admin and stakeholders.
I hope you're having a fantastic start to your school year! Go WO!
