Bresnahan Weekly Wednesday
6/12/2024
As we end our school year together, I would like to thank this amazing community of students, parents and staff. I am proud of the work we have done together: the academic achievements; the creative endeavors; and most importantly, the connections made with one another.
On behalf of the Bresnahan staff, we wish you and your family a safe and happy summer. Thank you for the honor of working with your children. If your family will be returning to the Bresnahan next year - we can’t wait to see you again! If your family is moving on to the Molin or another school community, we wish you all the best and know that you will always have a place at the Bresnahan.
Sincerely,
Jamie Sokolowski, Principal

A Message From Bresnahan Library
We are winding down a fantastic year in the Bresnahan Library! All library books were due on Friday, 6/7, but if your child still has a Bresnahan library book it can be returned any day. Email notices were sent last week and many books were returned. Thanks! Another automated reminder will be sent this week for any books that are still checked out. We will be searching the shelves, the classrooms, and lockers for missing books that might be in school. If you have any questions about book returns, please email Mrs. Ames at rames@newburyport.k12.ma.us
Summer Reading!
Reading during the summer is essential to your child’s academic success! All students entering grades 1-12 in the Newburyport Public Schools have a summer reading “assignment”. The Bresnahan School Summer Reading Program is for students entering grades 1-3, but incoming preK and K students are welcome to join the fun! The Bresnahan Summer Reading Program is a fun-filled incentive challenge chart to keep your child reading all summer long. Click here to view a PDF of the Bresnahan Summer Reading Challenge Chart. Paper copies will be sent home the last week of school.
Additional information and reading resources are posted on the Bresnahan School Library website. Click here to view the summer reading website for more details, book suggestions, and links to the Newburyport Public Library’s summer reading incentives and activities.
*A Note about Third Grade Students Moving to the Molin School
If your third grade student will be moving on to the Molin School next year, their summer reading program is similar to the Bresnhan’s program. A paper copy will be sent home next week, but you can click here to learn about the summer reading program for incoming fourth graders.
If you have any questions about the Bresnahan Summer Reading Program, please email Mrs. Ames at rames@newburyport.k12.ma.us
Connecting to the Newburyport Public Library Summer Reading Program
The Newburyport Public Library is open all summer and offers amazing books and programs for children! Students can participate in both the Bresnahan Summer Reading Program and the Public Library’s summer reading program (Beanstack) simultaneously. Ms. Alison from the Public Library visited the Bresnahan School last week! Click here to learn about and register for the Public Library Summer Reading program!
The Public Library also offers excellent programs for children. This summer they will host puppet shows, magic shows, craft days, and more! All programs are free and open to all! Click here to access a copy of the sumer program schedule.
Lastly, if your child does not yet have a library card, click here to get information on obtaining a library card. Our Bresnahan readers are enthusiastic and we hope they continue to read, read, read all summer long!
Have a terrific summer! Happy reading!

A Note From The PTO:
Thank you for a great year! It’s been a busy and successful PTO year thanks to your generosity and support. Highlights include the Fall Festival, Staff Cookie Swap, 100 Day Celebration, Clipper Readathon, Spirit Wear sales, Holiday Raffle Calendar, Candy Grams, our March Parent Social, Teacher Appreciation week, Newburyport Kitchen Tour, Spring Fling, third grade yearbooks and celebration, and the MANY field trips, funding proposals, scholarships, and assemblies we were able to fund with your help! Your support has had a meaningful impact on students and teachers. First, thank you to all the teachers and parents on our wonderful board. We couldn’t do all that we do without our incredible team and our incredible NBPT community. We’d like to first acknowledge Christy Teel for her herculean effort organizing and running the Bres Spring Fling this year. Thank you, Christy, for all the time and attention you gave to make the event amazing. We also want to thank Danielle Hall, Rhiannon Mello, Christine Cioffi, Kathleen Petrie and Emily Webber for their service on the board. We will miss you next year! Last, we’d like to say a huge thank you to Kate Suchecki, who has served as PTO President for the past three years. If you know Kate, you know how passionate she is about creating a school community. She has brought so many new events to our school and has led our board with enthusiasm, generosity, and selflessness. While she is stepping down from her role as President, we know she will still be a guiding force for the PTO. The PTO strives to create a warm and collaborative relationship between families and our schools, and we invite and encourage everyone to get involved. Please reach out if you are interested in joining our board or join us at a meeting next year. We hope everyone has a wonderful summer! ~The Newburyport PTO
