The Scandia Scoop #5
September 6, 2024
Dear Scandia Families,
What a great week at Scandia Elementary IB World School! Students, teachers and staff are all here and are excited to be back! Some of you may notice your student is extra tired at the end of the day, this is normal for the first week of school! Teachers feel it too (and principals)! We have all been busy settling into routines, making new friends and working hard to create and learn classroom and school-wide expectations. This is going to be another great year! Thank you for partnering with us to support your student(s). Enjoy your weekend and be sure to wave if you see us at the Taco Daze Parade this Saturday!
Once again, be sure to check out our webpage https://sc.flaschools.org/ for easy access to our school calendar, handbooks, resources and any other information you may need this year.
Important Dates:
- Taco Daze Parade: 9/7 @4pm
- PTO meeting: Tuesday 9/10
- Picture Day: October 1st
Take care and be safe!

Reimagine 2025
Forest Lake Area Schools is considering two changes to reimagine the school district to meet the needs of our students now and in the future. Both changes would begin one year from now at the start of the 2025-2026 school year. The first change would bring all district 6th graders to Forest Lake Area Middle School and the second change would consolidate Forest Lake and Forest View elementary schools into one school.
The School Board plans to vote on this proposal in October and we are looking for feedback from families. If you would like to learn more about the proposal and share your input, there will be a meeting here at Scandia Elementary in the Media Center on Tuesday, 9/10 at 4pm. All parents and families are welcome to attend. This meeting also coincides with our monthly PTO meeting.
You can also learn more online at flaschools.org/reimagine.
Input Wanted
In partnership with Washington County, the City of Scandia has been creating a plan to improve connections for pedestrians, bicyclists, and all modes of travel within the City Center, which includes the area around Scandia Elementary School. Over the last few months, the project team has developed a set of concept ideas and we’d like your input! Community feedback will shape the final recommendations for the study, which will be completed in the Fall of 2024.
You can view and comment on the multi-modal concepts through the end of September, 2024 in the following ways:
- Visit the project website through September 30th to learn about the project and comment on concept ideas https://www.co.washington.mn.us/ScandiaCityCenterStudy
- Contact County Staff to discuss your thoughts or ideas:
PW-ScandiaCityCenter@co.washington.mn.us or call Sara Allen, Project Manager, 651-430-4363
What do teachers love?
Well, aside from caffeine and reading, teachers love Kleenex! If you were looking to donate something to your student's teacher please know that boxes of tissues are ALWAYS appreciated (from both teachers and all the little noses)!
