West Haven Highlights
Oct. 25, 2024
Hello Families
The weather is finally starting to cool and the leaves are starting to change colors. It looks like fall may finally be here. Once the weather starts getting colder please encourage students to bring a sweat shirt or a coat as students continue to go outside for recess.
We recently completed our safety meeting with the police department. An outcome of that meeting was that we needed to create a change in our morning procedures. It was determined that it would be safer to keep the front doors locked and have our students who join us for breakfast come in to the building through the cafeteria doors on the south side where we have supervision. We ran this on a trial basis first which we realize should have been communicated better. After the trial it was determined that our students and our school are safer when we have our breakfast students entering through the cafeteria doors. We recognize safety is not always convenient but we appreciate our families being flexible with this change to help keep our students safe.
Students who do not eat breakfast should join their classes in the back of the school as usual where we have morning supervision. When the first bell rings at 8:30 students will be let in to their classes and students who are still being dropped off can then come through the front doors. They will need to press the button to be let in. We are carefully monitoring everyone who enters the school to ensure our students and school enivornment are safe at all times. Students will be let in. Staff involved in this process have been trained and understand the new procedures. Thank you for your patience as we continue to work together to ensure the safety of our students.
On those extra snowy, wet, or extra cold days, we will have signs out and will be bringing students in through the main doors and cafeteria doors. They will not have to wait outside.
Halloween Parade: At West Haven, we have a parade for students to share their costumes with other students. Students arrive to school dressed in their costumes (see costume requirements below.) Later in the morning students will have a parade with their classes through the other classrooms of the school. The parade is only for students as we will jump back into learning right after. Students have the option of changing into regular clothes for the remainder of the day. We know this process may be different than the traditions of other schools.
Save the Date: We have a skate night planned for October 28th from 5:00-8:00

Halloween Costume Requirements (English)
Subject: Halloween Costume Guidelines
Dear Parents,
As we approach Halloween, we’re excited to see our students celebrate with creativity and fun! To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, please review the following guidelines for Halloween costumes:
Cultural Sensitivity: Please avoid costumes that are culturally inappropriate, stereotypical, or racially insensitive.
Focus on Fun: Costumes should be fun and lighthearted. We ask that political themes be avoided.
Age-Appropriate: Remember that students of all ages will see your child’s costume. Costumes should not include blood, gore, or other disturbing elements.
Handheld Accessories: To prevent loss and accidents, please do not send your child with any handheld accessories. Costume accessories resembling weapons or deemed dangerous are not allowed.
Face Paint and Masks: Face paint should be applied at home and kept minimal for recognizability. Masks and full face coverings are not permitted, as they can hinder visibility and identification.
Dress Code Compliance: Finally, all costumes should align with our school dress code.
These guidelines are in place to ensure the safety and comfort of all our students. If a student’s costume is deemed inappropriate, they will be asked to remove it and may be sent home.
We appreciate your support in making Halloween a safe and enjoyable experience for all our students. Thank you for your cooperation!
