FULL DAY ATTENDANCE is necessary for all students! Students are counted present for each class that they attend. It is imperative that the students stay at school the entire day as leaving early affects the students attendance/ability to receive credit for their class. Students must meet the State of Texas attendance requirement of 90% attendance in EACH CLASS.

It is imperative that STUDENTS are on time so that they do not miss out on INSTRUCTION. Students are highly encouraged to arrive to campus by 7:45 so that they have ample time to eat breakfast and then be released to their classrooms by 8:15. If arriving after 8:15 please send students to the front doors. If the student is arriving after 8:30 a parent or guardian will need to walk the student up to the front office and sign them in. Students will be counted TARDY at 8:30 a.m.

HISD ATTENDANCE POLICY

Students who are in jeopardy for losing credit for this semester have been informed to attend Saturday Attendance Recovery. All students will have the opportunity to make up loss attendance through the APEX Program. Students will need to be in attendance on the following Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Please reach out to your grade level administrator should you have any questions/concerns.

Parents it is an expectation that if a student is a car rider they will be picked up in the arrival/dismissal area (courtyard on the side of the school). Please do not encourage them to walk to market street to get picked up. Please use the car rider line to pick up your student. Please help us keep all students safe during arrival and dismissal by following the procedure. If you are in need of a car rider tag please contact the front office.

Car-Rider Tags - All students will receive a car rider tag for inclement weather dismissal days. This will help to alleviate students having to walk in the weather or waiting for longer periods for dismissal. Please place in your vehicle window so that the administrator is able to clearly see the number for your student. Please review the assigned car number with your student so that they know their car rider number should they need to use the car rider line.

ALL STUDENTS arriving prior to the start of instruction ( 6:45 - 8:25) will enter through the side gate ( ZINDLER ST/ Courtyard area) and walk up to the first stairs to the cafeteria. Students will not enter through the front gates/doors of the school prior to 8:30.

Students will eat breakfast in the cafeteria and will be released at 8:15 to their respective classrooms. Breakfast starts at 7:00 a.m.

There will be one car rider line for students to exit safely. Students should be on the passenger side of the car so that it is easy for them to exit the car. Please watch for guidance from Staff members that are assisting with traffic.

The Entry gate to the courtyard will be closed promptly at 8:25 a.m. Students who are not in the building by 8:30 will need to go to the front of the building to enter through the front office. Students arriving after 8:30 will need a PARENT/GUARDIAN to sign them in at the front office. Students will be counted TARDY if they are not in their 1st period classroom at 8:30 a.m.

Walkers will be released first from the building through the dismissal exit ( Courtyard). Students will be walked to the intersection of Zindler and Market. Students will be instructed to stay on the side and part in the direction of their destination at the the intersection.

If there is a train on the track at dismissal ALL WALKERS WILL BE HELD IN THE CAFETERIA until it is safe to release. Students may receive disciplinary consequences for failure to comply with adult directives. Please know that this measure is put into place for the SAFETY of your child.

Car Riders - will be released after clearing the way of all walkers to Zindler. Please be patient as we will be working to make sure that all students are safe at dismissal.

Our Afterschool Dinner program is open to all students between the ages of 1-18. Students under the age of 16 must be accompanied with a parent/guardian.

Students must have a CLEAR BACKPACK. Students are not allowed to have mesh backpacks/full colored backpacks. Students are allowed a small purse that can fit into the backpack, no backpack purses allowed.

At McReynolds Middle School we do require ALL STUDENTS to be in uniform. If students are out of dress code parents will be contacted to bring/provide the appropriate clothing needed for the student. If you are in need of support for uniforms please reach out to our WRAP-AROUND Specialist Mr. Gutierrez. Please see the uniform requirements below. Students ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WEAR JEANS DURING THE WEEK! Students must wear matching sweatshirt/sweater that is their grade level uniform color. No Hoodies are allowed in the building. No head scarves, bonnets, bandanas are allowed.

Note:

• It is not allowed to tuck in the hood.
• It is not allowed to keep the hood off of the head.
• If you need assistance getting non-hooded winter wear for your child, let us know.

The Houston Independent School District has established as one of its primary goals the provision of a high- quality educational program for each student in a safe school environment free of disruptions that interfere with the educational process. The purpose of this Code of Student Conduct is to inform all students and parents of their rights and responsibilities and HISD’s expectations regarding behavior and conduct. The Code, reviewed and approved by the HISD Board of Education, is based on federal and state laws and the policies of the Board of Education and Administrative Regulations. Administrative regulations communicate District procedures and practices in the contexts of Board policy, federal law, and state law.

This Student Code of Conduct is adopted by the district’s Board of Education; it has the force of policy. In the event of a conflict between the Code and a campus-specific Student Handbook, the Code shall prevail.

• The Code’s Jurisdiction:

  • while at school or 300 feet from the school’s property line,
  • at school sponsored or school related activities,
  • certain criminal felony violations away from school, and
    
  • cyberspace and social media activities that directly and substantially impact the school environment.

  This Code was developed to protect the rights of all students by:

  • providing a districtwide discipline management plan,
  • specifying the behavior that is expected of all students,
  • describing the range of student misconduct and providing appropriate disciplinary consequences or options for the various forms of misconduct,
  • outlining student rights relating to school participation, and
  • listing procedures that must be followed when applying consequences.

  HISD staff, students, and parents/guardians are expected to become familiar with and abide by the provisions of the Code of Student Conduct and the rules and regulations adopted and implemented by individual schools based on their School-Based Discipline Management System.

HISD hosts several events to give prospective students and their families the opportunity to learn about their campuses before the application process starts. Each fair is organized by grade level (Elementary, Middle, and High Schools) and all 119 magnet campuses participate in each fair.

Students are prohibited from using all telecommunication devices such as, but not limited to cellular phones, nintendo switch, Ipads, etc. Such devices must not be visible and must remain turned off during the school day. A student in violation of these rules will have the device confiscated.

1st - Offense - Phone will be confiscated and student will pick up at the end of day

2nd Offense - Parent will need to pick up phone at the front desk at the end of the day

3rd Offense - $15.00 Administrative fee paid to school and phone returned to Parent Guardian

Students should not have food/drinks in the hallway or classroom. Students should keep all food and drinks in a lunch-kit or backpack. If items are outside of the backpack or lunch kit the items will be confiscated and not returned. NO GLASS containers. Students should bring individual sized food items, FAMILY SIZED/PARTY SIZE items will be confiscated and not returned.

Texas House Bill 114 - All students caught vaping or in possession of any type of component of a vape regardless of the substance on school property or during school related activities will result in district assigned consequences.

VAPE = DAEP

Students in possession of Illegal items will receive appropriate consequences per campus/district policy.
