Hello, Schweitzer families.
April was over in a flash! We are now into May already, and we are gearing up for a fabulous end to our 2023-2024 school year! This month there are so many fun activities planned, so be sure to mark your calendar with all the upcoming events.
Thank you to 3rd and 4th grade students and families for making sure you were prepared for the PSSAs. Thank you to our K-4 Faculty for preparing students for assessments like this each and every day they are at Schweitzer through our core curriculum, MTSS interventions, and schoolwide PBIS program.
Next week (The week of May 6th), it is Staff Appreciation Week! The Albert Schweitzer PTO has a special week ahead for staff including bagels & a light breakfast on Monday, a Wawa catered lunch on Wednesday, and sweet desserts on Friday. They are using PTO money raised throughout the year to honor our Schweitzer Staff! Please encourage your child to make a card for their teacher or a special staff member they would like to show appreciation for.
I encourage families to attend the upcoming Title I Informational Meeting on May 20th. (Invite sent out and below!) The first 15 families that register and attend get FREE Books. For any family that registers and attends, the child(ren) will get a special ice cream celebration with Dr. Orlando!
Field Day is coming up on May 17th. We're excited to join Mr. Mazurkiewicz in a fun-filled, active day. This year the PBIS school team donated money toward an inflatable Obstacle Course to add to the fun. Congratulations to our Field Day T-Shirt Design winners, Noralynn Turner (Grade 3) and Milania Ozdemir (Grade 4)!

Emergency Safety Drills at Schweitzer
Albert Schweitzer Elementary School conducts monthly Fire Drills as a preventive measure to prepare for a real emergency. We also routinely practice Lockdown Drills and other emergency drills such as a Hold, Secure, and Shelter to practice scenarios if we were to experience a real emergency such as a weather alert or an intruder alert. Teachers review with students prior to drills so they know what to expect, and the staff works collaboratively to account for all students and staff through an app as if it were a real emergency. We appreciate everyone's dedication to the safety of our school community.

First Grade Art Reception at Oxford Oaks Starbucks
First Grade Students at Schweitzer took part in an art reception at the Oxford Oaks Starbucks location on Tuesday, April 2nd. Mrs. Todd, Albert Schweitzer’s art teacher, coordinated the hanging of the student artwork with the Starbucks manager to highlight the artistic talent of students. The first grade students were honored at the reception and rewarded with lemonade and cake pops! The artwork hung in the Oxford location for the month. Great work artists!

Important Vaccination Reminders
VACCINATON REQUIREMENT REMINDER
In 2017, Pennsylvania's Department of Health established requirements for school vaccinations. Please review this document from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and consult with your child’s healthcare provider. Communication from the District will continue as a reminder of this PA Department of Health requirement.
District Policy 203 requires that “a certificate of immunization shall be maintained as part of the health record for each student, as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.” Further, the Policy states that “a student who has not been immunized per state regulations shall not be admitted to or permitted to attend district schools unless exempted for medical or religious reasons or provisionally admitted by the Superintendent or designee after beginning a multiple dose vaccine series and submitting proof of immunization or a medical certificate on or before the fifth school day of attendance.”
The requirements allow for the following exemptions: medical reason, religious belief, or philosophical/strong moral or ethical conviction. Even if your child is exempt from immunizations, he or she may be excluded from school during a vaccine-preventable disease outbreak.
Communication from the District will continue as a reminder of this PA Department of Health and Policy 203’s requirements. Please contact your child’s School Nurse with questions.
Registration Open for 2024-2025 School Year
