Hubbard Woods Update

Principal Update
Dear Hubbard Woods Community,
I hope that everyone had an amazing Mayfest. Thank you to parents and staff for all of the behind the scenes work to put on such a wonderful event! I am disappointed to have missed it but had a beautiful weekend at my daughter's graduation. Time flies so quickly. Remember not to sweat the small stuff! Some of the most frustrating moments in childhood end up as fodder for dinners when adults. đ
Last week, we had a wonderful performance by the Washburne Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble. Our students were happy to see some older siblings and were incredibly excited that one of the songs was a Taylor Swift song.
We have seen a recent uptick in smart watches impacting our educational environment. Students are playing with the watches, parents are texting their children during the school day, and students are texting each other. Please remember that if any of these occur during the school day, the student will be asked to put their watch in their backpack. If they are not in their homeroom, they will be asked to bring them to my office. We all need to work together to keep our environments as distraction free as possible. Thank you for your support in this area. Please remember that the school is not responsible for personal items of the students.
Don't forget that Friday is a half-day this week, with an 11:20 dismissal.
Have a wonderful week.
Best,
Beth
Strings for 2024-2025
To Elementary School Families:
Just a quick email to let you know it is that time of year again. Recruitment assemblies will be taking place this month at Crow Island, Greeley and Hubbard Woods for current 1st-3rd grade students. 4th grade students will have a separate assembly where they will learn more about the program at Skokie. 4th graders can also start on any string instrument including the string bass!! Students will be introduced to the instruments that they can learn at school: violin, viola, cello and string bass. (4th graders only) The registration forms will be electronic again this year via Google Forms.
If you have more than one child signing up next year, feel free to use the same form for both (all) of your children. The registration deadline will be Friday, June 10th. Please let us know if you have any questions. Looking forward to working with your children again next year!

Spring Benchmarking
Benchmark assessments are valuable tools that provide a snapshot of student progress at a point in time. These assessments help teachers to identify areas where students are excelling and where they may need additional support. They can also inform instructional decisions by providing data that can be used to tailor teaching to meet each student's unique needs and strengths. Benchmark assessments are an important component of progressive education, which recognizes that students learn in different ways and at different rates. By using benchmark assessments to inform instruction, teachers can provide a more individualized approach to learning that supports each student's academic growth and personal development.
Academic benchmark assessments for literacy and math will occur three times this year for students in grades K-8. The Spring Benchmark Assessments start on April 29th and conclude on May 17th. There are three platforms the district utilizes to gather student learning information; aimswebPlus, mCLASS, and NWEA MAP. Benchmarking reports will be mailed home on Wednesday, May 29th.
Assessment may be found on our district website in the Benchmark Assessment Section of ITL under Parent Communication on Student Learning. If you need further information on your childâs testing session, please contact your building principal.
