SD Met Family Updates

On April 19, we had a fantastic MetUp Career Day in which students had the opportunity to meet and converse with a multitude of professionals from many different fields: from medical students to barbers, from tattoo artists to small business owners. In the morning students attended panels in which a variety of professionals answered general questions such as: What are the highlights or challenges in your profession? What advice would you give your high school self? After the panel sessions, students did mini-round tables in rooms themed around certain fields, such as STEM, Arts, Trades, etc. In the afternoon our Aspen Team led our students in creative sessions focusing on mental health support through art. They explored poetry, photography and visual art. It was a truly robust day of real world learning!

On May 1, the Met's Aspen Challenge Team went to the Aspen Challenge Solution Showcase to present their project, the Express Campaign. 8 students did an 8-minute presentation to students and staff across the district about the project they created. The students also spent an hour discussing their project with business professionals at a standing exhibit they created. Patch and Pond’s “Makers Market” event was a terrific event on April 22! Students from the Met community sold their own original creations, including art, earrings, handmade accessories, and much more.

On Friday, April 25, our seniors created top-notch meals for the 12th Grade Humanities Healthy Meals Challenge. This project explores principles of economics, informed by the themes of food insecurity and social justice, and sparked by the fun of cooking and eating.

This week, Met students and staff participated in the Education Reimagined Learning Lab, a gathering of educators and youth who explored the elements of learner-centered environments and how we can make our own schools more authentically responsive to student needs and directed by student interests.

Theater club is asking for the following items to help build/create a set for their showcase on May 28 (details to come):

• 1/2" pvc pipe, any length
• 1/2" pvc elbow or T connectors
• "fake" grass/ astroturf remnants, any size (borrow)
• fairy lights (battery or solar) (borrow)

SD Met Friends: Looking for a unique gift idea for the animal lovers in your life? Support SD Met 11th grade student, Kloe, in her "Paint your Pet Fundraiser" to benefit her internship at the Cat Cafe! The Cat Cafe is a local cat rescue/coffee shop where patrons can enjoy their favorite beverages and pastries while interacting with adoptable cats. On Saturday May 18th participants will arrive to paint a pre sketched image of their pet on canvas. After painting their pet, they will have the opportunity to visit with the adoptable cats. Students should begin considering their FALL 2024 Mesa courses. Students have until May 14 to make their selections. Students should get support from their Advisor for help selecting classes and completing requisite forms.
