District News
A Message from the Superintendent
Warrior Families,
I am thankful to lead a district whose teachers and staff care so much for their students. In all of our school buildings, our teachers and staff create amazing learning opportunities for our students every day. What’s more, they regularly serve and give significantly to ensure our students have every possible opportunity.
I am incredibly thankful for our community partners who work with us to provide additional support for our students in need. I want to sincerely thank those who donated to the community fundraisers that were established last week. Many of you lived out our mission of Building Community in a meaningful and tangible way for our students, and I am extremely grateful.
Thank you and Onward Lebanon,
Isaac W. Seevers, Superintendent
Congratulations to Lebanon High School seniors Luke Edmonds and Ally Bissman, who were crowned 2023 Homecoming King and Queen!
Renowned glass artist Darren Goodman visited Berry Intermediate to teach students about his work. He uses his artistic talents of glass blowing and music to encourage students to recognize their own value and use their creativity for good.
Fourth graders in Mrs. Spatz' class at Donovan Elementary learned about the making of the Constitution, then they wrote acrostic poems about America and about the Constitution.
Mrs. Hale's sixth grade class at Berry Intermediate walked to the Katie Aylor and Brandi Cook Nature Trail near the school to gather stream water in jars. They took the water-filled jars back to their classroom to study microorganisms under the microscope.
In Lebanon Junior High School's Flight & Space STEM class, students designed airplanes and worked with a flight simulator.
Ms. Stewart's first graders at Bowman Primary School learned all about vowels! They played a game by holding up the correct 'vowel stick' to correctly identify the vowel in the word pictured.

Nov. 7: Permanent Improvement Levy Renewal
Lebanon City School District has a Permanent Improvement renewal levy on the November 7, 2023 ballot. This renewal levy is for 2.0 mills at a fixed rate for 5 years, for permanent improvements. The renewal is not a new tax; there is no tax increase.
Revenues received from the Permanent Improvement Levy only fund capital improvements and expenditures, including: maintenance and repairs, heating and air conditioning systems, technology for students and teachers, textbook adoptions, safety and security improvements, and bus purchases. This levy does not fund salaries and benefits.
The levy was originally approved by voters in 1998 and it has been renewed five times in the last 25 years. The levy millage has never been increased.

School & Student Safety Updates
The Safety and Violence Education Students (SAVE Students) Act, or House Bill 123, mandates specific instruction in social inclusion, violence prevention, and suicide prevention every year for Ohio students in grades 6-12.
Schools are required to provide students with one standard class period of instruction in social inclusion, one standard class period of instruction in violence prevention, and one standard class period of instruction in suicide prevention. Beginning this year, ALL Lebanon 6th-12th grade students will receive this instruction. After this year, sixth grade students will receive this instruction annually and students in grades 7-12 will receive the training as a part of their required health course.
These topics are crucial for fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment, promoting positive relationships among students, and equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate real-life challenges.
Districts are required to use instructional materials from a state-wide list of approved evidence-based programs. Lebanon City Schools will use instructional materials developed by Sandy Hook Promise to deliver this instruction. We will utilize the units called: Start with Hello, Say Something, and Say Something-Prevent Suicide.
We value our partnership with our families and respect the important role they play in their child's education. Prior to the scheduled instruction, our school building principals will provide families with information about when this instruction will take place, and information about how families can opt students out of this instruction if they choose.
We believe that by working together, we can create a community that prioritizes the well-being and success of all our students.
Health Education Update: Erin's Law
Erin's Law, or Senate Bill 288, mandates specific instruction in health education to include the requirement to educate all K-12 students in child sexual abuse prevention, dating violence prevention, and sexual violence prevention.
Beginning this school year, schools are required to provide developmentally appropriate instruction in child sexual abuse prevention to all K-6 students. In addition, schools are required to provide dating and sexual violence prevention education to students in grades 7-12. Instruction must include recognizing dating violence warning signs and characteristics of healthy relationships.
Instruction in grades K-6 will occur annually and include information on available counseling and resources for children who are sexually abused. Students in grade 7-12 will receive this required instruction as a part of their required health course. According to the law, instruction and information provided cannot be connected in any way to any individual, entity, or organization that provides, promotes, counsels or makes referrals for abortion or abortion-related services.
Lebanon City Schools will partner with the Child Advocacy Center of Warren County to provide the instruction for all students. They will provide the Child Safety Matters program and they will provide the training directly to students in their classrooms. Students will receive fun, engaging, and age and developmentally appropriate classroom lessons that educate and empower them to prevent, recognize, and respond appropriately to bullying, cyberbullying, child abuse, relationship abuse, digital abuse, and other digital dangers. A trained facilitator will be implementing the program in classrooms.
Child Safety Matters has a video library available on their YouTube channel. Families are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the material to continue the discussion at home. We value our partnership with our Warrior families and respect the important role they play in their child's education. Prior to these required trainings, our school building principals will provide families with information about when the instruction will take place, access to the materials, and the ability to opt-out of the instruction if they choose.
