MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Good Day All,
We are off to a great start! It is so amazing to see our hallways full and lively. Our staff members are hard at work creating classroom communities that are calm and kind in order to be peaceful and productive. September attendance is incredibly important and there is a lot of research that supports the positive relationship with students’ academic success and their attendance in September and beyond. Please know that we are going to be partnering with you in order to address any issues with student attendance by phone and mail if your student misses more than two days of school in September. Be present, be powerful!
Our school cell phone policy is linked here for your convenience and review. So far our students have been doing a great job keeping their devices off and away. Please know that we are a cell phone & airpod/headphone free environment from 8:15 - 3:10. If students receive multiple reminders and are still struggling to keep their devices silent and away, they will be asked to leave it in the office for the remainder of the day. If it continues, we will ask that a parent/guardian come and pick it up and we will develop a cellphone check in/out plan. Your partnership in this is extremely important. Please do not text your child during the school day. If you need to get in touch with them, please call the main office. Thank you so much for your partnership.
We are looking for a few community members to join our school Site Council. This year the Site Council, composed of administrators, teachers, classified members and community partners, will work together to update our school mission statement and plan celebratory activities for our school’s 50th anniversary. Please email me if you are interested.

HAPPENINGS
Picture Day is coming on Tuesday, September 17
Speaking of Picture Day: Picture Day Volunteers needed! Are you:
Available all day this Tuesday, September 17, 8:00am-3:10pm?
Already “volunteer approved” with TTSD? Or able to complete the volunteer process prior to Tuesday, September 17? (Not sure? Call the Main Office, (503)431-5000, we’re happy to check!
If you answered yes to both of these questions, we’d love to have your help! Dorian offers their gratitude for your assistance by giving you a personalized portrait package for your student(s). (Package C) We need three volunteers. If you’re able to help, please respond to this email, or email Trish Merrick, tmerrick@ttsd.k12.or.us. We will accept the offers of help in the order they are received. Thank you, in advance, for your help!
If you have moved or need to update phone numbers or emergency contacts for your student, please do so via ParentVue. We did not send home a verification sheet, but would appreciate it if you take the time to make sure everything we have on file is correct. Follow these steps:
Sign into ParentVue
Your student(s) will show and underneath the picture and name there will be white pop-up box that says, “Verify Student Information” Click on Begin.
The next page will say “ONLINE ENROLLMENT/VERIFICATION”. Click on the box that says “Update Student Information”
All of your TTSD students will be listed, click the blue “Save and Continue” button and proceed through the information, making changes where needed. (at some point you may feel like you are re-enrolling them…be sure to roll all the way to the bottom of the page where it says “Verification”)
Fowler students that are in need of free school supplies, please reach out to our Family Partnership Advocate, Victor Romo, at vromo@ttsd.k12.or.us, or call him at (503)431-5054.
Many students may want to change their schedule. While there are certainly reasons that would warrant a schedule change, schedules will only be changed for very specific reasons such as they are missing a class, they are placed in the wrong class, they have the same class twice. Please click here for more information and examples regarding schedule change requests. If it turns out that there is a reason for the change, encourage your student to stop by the Counseling Center on their lunch to complete a request.
We are planning on recognizing student birthdays this year via display in the Commons. If there is a reason that you do not want your student’s birthday (minus the year) displayed, please complete this form so that we can honor your request. We will work to include students whose birthday falls on a non-school day, i.e., summer birthdays on their half birthday. Thank you to all who have already responded!

GETTING TO AND FROM SCHOOL
THIS IS IMPORTANT! STUDENT SAFETY IS OUR TOP CONCERN
For students riding a bus, their bus, pick-up time and pick-up (and drop-off) location should be available on ParentVue and StudentVue. It is located under the “Student Info” tab. Roll to the bottom, and if your student has a bus route based on the address we have on file, it will look like this:
We are told that it is easier to locate on a browser versus the app. Look for it on a computer or tablet if possible. If you are NOT able to locate it on ParentVue, here is the link to the Bus Routes for Fowler Middle School.
Bicycles, scooters and skateboards are not allowed to be ridden on school property. Students will need to dismount and walk it in when they arrive at Fowler.
If your student rides a bicycle to school, we have several bike racks located to the right of the Main Entrance for them to secure their bike. They will need to provide their own lock to secure their bike.
If your student rides a scooter or skateboard, they will need to secure it on the rack inside the vestibule as they arrive. They will need their own lock in order to do so. Padlocks and chain bike locks both work. Scooters and skateboards do not typically fit in most of our lockers.
If you drop-off your student or pick-up your student, please take a moment to read the following Drop-Off and Pick-Up instructions. We consider the parking lot directly in front of the school closed between 8-8:45am and 3-3:30pm. It is imperative that these instructions are followed for the safety of our students.
Morning Drop-off:
Do not drop-off in the front of the school between 8:00-8:45am.
Drop-off in the parking lot near the tennis courts, using the entrance on Walnut St.
Afternoon Pick-up:
Do not pick-up in front of the school building between 3:00-3:30.
Enter Driveway on Walnut St. (near tennis courts).
Proceed forward and park in any available space.
When all spaces are occupied, a row of cars will form around the inner island of spaces.
The outside lane will be left open for passing cars.
DO NOT STOP in the outside lane, you may keep circling around if you did not get your student on the first run by the loading zone.
Students wait on the sidewalk by the baseball field house.
Pick up students in the loading zone or in your parking space.
An adult will be in the parking lot daily to assist in the crosswalk.
Our goal is to have the lot empty by 3:25.
CHANGE: Exiting the lot will be RIGHT TURN ONLY during pick-up and drop-off times. Please plan accordingly.
HELPFUL TIDBITS
Students are welcome to bring backpacks to school, however backpacks are not allowed to be brought to classes. Backpacks will be kept in students’ lockers during the school day. String bags may be brought to class to carry supplies if needed.
We do offer students string bags for $1 if they need and/or want one. They just need to bring their $1 to the Main Office.
Students are welcome to purchase a more durable small string bag (athletic shoe bag) at any store and soon will be able to use tokens in our student store soon.
The string bags are not a necessity, as a majority of students simply use their lockers for personal items and swap out the essential class items during passing times.
If you need to pick your student up early, please call the office prior to your arrival, and we will do our best to have them waiting for you. “Prior to” can be days before, the day before, the same day or on your way. You are always welcome to leave the information on our 24 hour Attendance Line (503)431-5021, as we pick up those messages first thing each morning. For safety purposes, we do require that you come into the Main Office and sign your student out. We will always take students in, but want to make sure that we know who they are leaving with.
