South San Antonio ISD
Counseling Department
Response to COVID-19
Our counseling department understands this is a difficult time where our students and
parents may have questions, anxiety, or unsure of what is to come. Please know we are here to help. We ask parents to work with us and limit the media coverage your child is viewing. As we continue to be closed students will still have the opportunity to have instruction, and have educational support. Below you will find various links to relevant resources, suggestions for talking with children about their concerns, information on mental health services, and activities to enjoy with your family.

How To Support Your Child
- Take time to talk with your child or teen about the COVID-19 outbreak.
- Answer questions and share facts in a way that your child or teen can understand.
- Reassure your child or teen that they are safe.
- Let them know it is ok if they feel upset. Share with them how you deal with your own stress so that they can learn how to cope from you.
- Limit your family’s exposure to news coverage of the event, including social media. It is easy to misinterpret what they hear.
- Try to keep up with regular routines. Even as schools are temporarily closed, try to create a schedule for learning activities and relaxing or fun activities.
- Be a role model. Get plenty of sleep, exercise, and eat well. Connect with your friends and family members.
