Growing Together @ STL
February 28, 2025

Leadership Message
We rock out at our GIFT assemblies! We start and end each assembly with worship songs, and this one the students enjoyed, so we thought we'd share it with you. There may be more to come!
Celebrating Learning at Our GIFT Assemblies
Our weekly GIFT (Growing in Faith Together) assemblies are packed full of rich learning. While we focus on our Faith and learn about how God wants us to live, we also celebrate and learn about how we grow together at St. Luke.
Well done to our Grade 4 students who shared their personally written Land Acknowledgements this month. They are heartfelt and meaningful, as well as a beautifully positive way to lean into Reconciliation. Check a few of them out below:

Hugging it Out
When we work through hard things together, our relationships are stronger. I am proud of these three boys for their hard work in lading at a really positive place together.

Thank you Volunteers!
This past Thursday we had STL's Open House and it was amazing! The joy, excitement and hope was palpable throughout the school. We had a great turn out and there was fantastic energy throughout the entire evening! Thank you to our STL staff for their help. Thank you to Mrs. Bilyk and Mrs. Williamson for their behind the scenes help.
A VERY special thank you to our School Council members for volunteering their time to make it such a success: Mrs. Mistecki, Mrs. Ferguson, Mrs. Orr-Langner, Mrs. Crawley, Mrs. Watmough.
As well as a big thank you to our fantastic students who donated their time to tour families and share the joy of being at St. Luke. They too made it such a success.
Thank you for your investment in STL!

Congratulations Constable Noon!
We were grateful to have Constable Noon with us for a few months this year as our RCMP School Resource Officer. She's so great in her role, she has been called to Ottawa to fulfill a unique role to strengthen Indigenous relationships. Bravo Constable Noon!
We have a new RMCP Peace Officer joining the St. Luke Team and we will formally introduce him in the near future. Stay tuned!

Staff Growing Together on our Professional Learning Day
We started the day together with Mrs. McCann and Mrs. Kroeker feeding us a delicious pancake breakfast. Throughout the day we prayed, learned about Trauma Informed Practices, The Circle of Security, Expressive & Receptive Language Needs, Evidence of Learning and so much more. We also had fun laughing and playing together! This team loves St. Luke!

St. Luke is trying new foods!
This Tuesday, all students from Pre-K to Grade 8 had the opportunity to try and rate zucchini and mango. Many were surprised to find that they actually liked raw zucchini! While mango, with its sweet and juicy flavor, was a hit, zucchini impressed students with its mild crunch. Did you know that zucchini is technically a fruit and can grow up to two inches per day? It’s also over 90% water, making it a refreshing and hydrating snack. Mangoes, on the other hand, are known as the "king of fruits" and have been enjoyed for over 4,000 years! In fact, the world’s largest mango weighed over 7 pounds!
This tasting event was part of our Apple Schools initiative, which promotes healthy eating, active living, and mental well-being in schools. Apple Schools encourages students to try nutritious foods, build lifelong healthy habits, and make informed choices about what they eat. This fun tasting event helped students explore new foods and discover that sometimes, trying something different can lead to a tasty surprise!
Living the Sacred Teaching of Love
Throughout the month we learn about what love looks like, sounds like and feels like and children get the opportunity to put in into practice. At the end of each month we celebrate those students who took their learning to new levels, showing how well they loved this month! Congratulations to each of the staff and students for loving big at St. Luke!
