This newsletter is a weekly publication available every Wednesday to our Kilgour community. If you have information to share with our school community, including upcoming events and activities please email details to RC1 by 4pm on Mondays.

All,

Unfortunately, I have to cancel tomorrow's rehearsal due to a family emergency. As some of you know, my husband has been very ill for some time, and at the time I am writing this email, his death is imminent. Consequently, I need to be with him at his bedside. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. I will see you all next week.

Please keep Ms. Tina and her family in your well wishes. I will be sure to keep families informed about rehearsals and the upcoming performance date should any additional changes be needed. RC1

What is Transition Night?

Transition Night is an opportunity for parents/guardians to meet teachers in the next grade level, learn about some of the grade level highlights, and ask questions.

Kilgour teachers/staff organize this event to help provide a “smooth transition” for the upcoming

school year. Session times are provided in 3 sessions to allow parents/guardians with children at multiple grade levels the opportunity to visit the various grade levels.

*Kindergarten Roundup was held in March. Registration packets are STILL being ACCEPTED!

Session times:

● 4:15pm - 4:45pm

● 5:00pm - 5:30pm

● 5:45pm - 6:15pm

Grade level presentation locations:

● 1st grade: Room 1008 (Driscoll)

● 2nd grade: Room 1041 (Hellkamp)

● 3rd grade: Room 2003 (Park)

● 4th grade: Room 1026 (Culbertson)

● 5th grade: Room 1025 (Plattner)

● 6th grade: Room 1043 (Clark in the 2nd grade wing)

Students are welcomed, BUT NOT REQUIRED or mandatory. The focus is for parents to receive an overview of what's to come. Space may be limited.

Your parent and family feedback is extremely important to the district and Kilgour. If you haven't already, please take a few minutes to complete the 2024 CPS Climate Survey. I'm not one to gossip, but I've heard that someone at the district office is keeping track of the percentage of families that complete the survey.

Your students have already done their part to provide feedback and currently lead all schools with a 97.65% completion rate. Question parents and guardians, will you be beat by your students AND other schools in the district???

To ensure the carnival can happen, we need over 100 volunteer spots to be filled. Each time slot lasts only an hour and a half. In addition to adults
(that includes you too, dads!), the following are also welcome to volunteer:

• Kilgour Students with a Parent. Most booths require 2 people so a parent/student combo could fill both spots! If you believe your child can assist you effectively, this could be a great opportunity to spend time together.
• High School Students. Volunteering looks great on college applications!

Are you wigging out that it is almost summer break? Come to the 5th grade parent wig party! Wear your best wig--the crazier, the better. REMINDER - Every Friday Student Council will be selling slices of pizza for $2 on the bricks by the Kilgour Jungle (Ninja course) at dismissal through the end of the school year. Proceeds will benefit Kilgour improvements that the intermediate classes will decide on in the coming weeks.

Donations: Champions would love to have empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls, newspapers or magazines, we will use these for projects and over summer.

If your child will not be at champions due to a last minute schedule change please do not forget to let us know.

If someone other than the normal pick up people is picking up your child, please send us a quick message.

Summer camp registration is still open - log into your parent portal to secure your spot today - you choose how often your child comes and are only charged for what you schedule (meaning if you need a week or two or month off for other camps, go into your account and take your child off those days and you wont be charged).

Fall 24/25 before and afterschool enrollment is in full swing- secure your spot today before we fill up.

Important Reminders

• Champions closes promptly at 6:15pm. If you are going to be late picking up, please text or call. Late pick up fee is $10.00.
• Billing - Champions bills need to be paid by Wednesday before midnight, or you will be disenrolled on Thursday. If you are disenrolled, you will need to pay a $50.00 reenrollment fee.
  
• Schedule changes for the upcoming week are due before Wednesday at midnight to ensure proper billing.
• Inclement weather - If Kilgour is closed, so is Champions. If Kilgour has a delay, so does Champions.
  
• Please text, call or email if your child is absent so that we are not expecting them when we pick your child up from class in the afternoon. Thank you!

If you haven't already, now is the time to begin the tedious task of figuring out the summer routine. Whether it's finding the most interesting and engaging camps, a reliable summer reading program, a cool nanny or, just an occasional fun activity to keep the kiddos entertained, you gotta have a plan! This is an ongoing resource to hopefully help with your planning.

Summer Camps:

**Camp Erickson: Introduction to Irish Dance Summer Camps

• Perfect for children ages 5 - 12 who have never had any Irish dance experience or have just finished their first year of Irish dance with Erickson Academy!
  
• The three-day camp is a great way to discover what Irish dance is all about and provides a wonderful springboard to our Fall Session Youth Beginner program.
• Campers will be introduced to the basics of Irish dancing, participate in Irish arts and crafts, learn the group dances of Ireland, and enjoy some Irish storytelling!

• Session 1: June 11-12-13, 9:30am - 11:30am, $75 per camper
• Session 2: July 9-10-11, 9:30am - 11:30am, $75 per camper

The Stem Lab

• Our camp is divided into grade bands so experiments and projects are grade level and ability appropriate.

• Groups: Einstein's: rising KG - 2nd, Newton's: rising 3rd - 5th, Johnson's: rising 6th - 8th

Musical Theatre Camp w/ Amanda Marasch - Amanda has been with us at Kilgour through the CAA working with our K-6 students during Theatre/Drama club this school year.

• MTC for ages 9-12 June 10-14
• Professional musical theatre instructors teach the art of auditioning, memorization, vocal technique, choreography, character development and improvisation.
• For seasoned performers and those new to the arts.
• MTC for ages 6-8 July 8-12
• Half-day camp will feature elements of musical theatre including singing, acting and dancing.

Summer with Mathnasium of Hyde Park - a Kilgour sponsor

• Gives kids what they need to catch up, keep up, or get a jump on the math they'll be facing in the fall.

Art Camp w/ our very own Art teacher, Laura McMullen

• Max of 10 students per week
