National Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15, 2024 - October 15, 2024
Each year, students and staff at Communications Arts High School recognize National Hispanic Heritage Month. This time of celebration overlaps with many Latinx countries’ days of independence.
The Library of Congress uses this time to bring attention to several Latinx artists. You can click here to learn more about them. Many Communications Arts students helped create our collaborative piece of artwork pictured.
On Friday morning, September 27th, CAHS counselors handed out different Hispanic/Latinx stickers to CAHS students and faculty/staff in honor and celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month.
Different cultural songs were represented in the stickers. Some CAHS students even looked up the different Hispanic/Latinx songs and started to show off their dance moves.
CAHS students flocked to get their stickers and couldn’t wait to wear them!

Decision of Respect Day
October 4, 2024
The Decision of Respect Day is a day NISD declares we take a moment across the district campuses to talk about the high stakes that come with cyberbullying, and bullying in general. On this day, at Communications Arts HS, willing participants sign a decision of respect certificate that pledges students, faculty/staff to commit to spreading kindness and respect all around, making our school a positive and safe place to engage in learning and social interactions.
It is also on this day we pause to remember David Molak, a San Antonio student, who took his own life after being cyberbullied in 2016. The day draws attention to helping end bullying whether that be person to person, or through social media. Senate Bill 179 was passed in 2017. This Bill empowered school districts and parents with tools for bully prevention.
It provides for anonymous reporting for students, includes cyberbullying off campus and after school hours, and modifies the parental/guardian notification procedure. It provides flexibility in the disciplinary placement or the expulsion of students engaged in certain types of very serious bullying. It authorizes school principals to report certain incidents of bullying to local law enforcement, and provides protection from liability for doing so.
