60 Seconds with the Superintendent
Officer Dan, the School Resource Officer at SMS, is sharing his dog - Clover - with our SMS students and staff. Clover is much more than a therapy dog at the school. And students were able to show their appreciation for Clover’s first birthday by organizing a donation drive for the shelter that Officer Dan adopted Clover from. ISSUE 53 - SCS OPERATING LEVY
Issue 53 will be on the November 5th ballot. Issue 53 replaces the previous 5.9 mill renewal levy for our District. Since Issue 53 is a 4.9 mill continuous levy, it will lower the tax rate for Strongsville residents, while still investing and offering more to students and families, as well as keeping the District financially stable through the 2028-29 school year.
Have additional questions about Issue 53? Click HERE to submit your question.
As part of the District's Strategic Plan our Treasurer, George Anagnostou, has been releasing monthly Financial Fast Facts.

MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - KELLY DUPLAGA, 8TH GRADE ELA TEACHER - SMS DRAGONS TEAM
Mrs. Kelly DuPlaga teaches 8th Grade English Language Arts on the Dragons Team at Strongsville Middle School. This is the seventh year Mrs. DuPlaga has taught in our District. She has earned an undergraduate degree from Cleveland State University and a graduate degree from Baldwin Wallace University. In addition to teaching, Mrs. DuPlaga is the SMS Cheerleading Coach and also works closely with the SHS cheer program.
“Being able to create a community within the 8th grade, the Dragons team, and my classroom is my favorite part of working at SMS. It allows for great collaboration with my colleagues and the ability to build great relationships with my students. I love that I work with a wonderful and dedicated group of teachers who are always willing to try new things, push the envelope, and ultimately do what is best for kids.”
“The thing I love best about working with our students is seeing them feel successful. While I love teaching Language Arts, ultimately, I love being able to encourage students to be the best version of themselves and to believe in their abilities to do hard things. I think this is one of the most valuable things I can do as an educator. 8th grade can be a difficult time for students as they start to think about the transition to high school. I love that I get to work with so many students that want to challenge themselves and grow, but that I also get the opportunity to create a series of small victories for students who do not always believe they can achieve those wins. I always tell myself every year that if I can make an impact on at least one student, I have done my job. It is great to see students leave 8th grade at SMS and go on to experience great success in high school and beyond. It is even better when they are excited to share their stories of success with me!”
Thank you Mrs. DuPlaga for being part of a fantastic Dragons Team and for helping to prepare our 8th grade students for high school and beyond! #ModelMustang
