ASB Fundraiser Money Collection, Friday, Oct. 11
Friday, Oct. 11 is our first ASB collection day. Students should bring their completed yellow fundraiser form and money sealed in the envelope. Money collection will occur during 1st period on Friday, Oct. 11th..
There will be two more collection days next week: Tuesday, Oct. 15, and Wednesday, Oct. 16 at the start of 1st period.
Our school goal is $15,000 and we set an individual goal of $30 per student! SMS Athletic teams, clubs, and student activities will be directly supported through this fundraiser! All money raised goes to SMS. Please consider taking part!
Students have been instructed NOT to solicit money from strangers or go door-to- door. We are also telling students to leave money at home until the turn in days: Oct 11, Oct 15 & Oct 16. If each student collects $5.00 from six family friends, they will help us meet our school goal.

Drop-off and Pick-Up Student Safety - Everyone Needs To Do Their Part
It will be getting darker in the mornings. Student safety needs to be all of our priority.
When dropping off or picking up your student, there are designated areas in our front loop (right in front of our school) where vehicles are NOT allowed to stop. The expectation is to pull all the way through to the end of the loop (closest to Maple Lawn). When we have staff directing you to move to the end of the loop, please follow staff directions. This helps reduce traffic issues on Willow Street which helps keep our students safe.
Always watch for students as you turn into our parking lots and do not encourage your child to cross the street on Willow unless your child is in a crosswalk. Your support of these safety practices help keep all kids safe.
The speed limit on Willow Street is 20 mph; we are a school zone. The speed limit in our front loop and parking lot is 5 mph. Our middle school is made up of adolescents who are 10-14 years old. We teach them expectations but they don’t always make the best choices. PLEASE always be looking for students in crosswalks, on the road, and on sidewalks.
Do NOT park in the front loop. If you need to come into our building, you must park in our parking lot or on Willow Street.
Thanksgiving Meal Assistance - The Big Give
Community Big Give 2024 is excited to provide families in need with a full Thanksgiving meal this November. If you would like to receive a meal, please visit https://communitybiggive.com/meal. The deadline to sign up is November 15. There is an area-wide registration limit of 1,500 families so please sign up early to reserve your meal. If you have any questions, please contact your student's counselor.

- Friday, October 25: Costume Day or wear orange
Friday, October 25 & Thursday, October 31 - Costumes are allowed; no blood, no gore, no weapons; no full face masks (we must be able to identify students); no inflatables (only at lunch); school dress code guidelines must still be followed
Dance/After School Activities on Thursday, October 24, 2:30 to 4:00pm
Where: Sumner Middle
Who: All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who purchase a ticket ($3 with an ASB card and $5 without ASB).
What: Music and dancing, sports, games, and snacks for sale
Other important information:
Tickets are on sale starting Thursday, Oct.17. Tickets can be purchased until the morning of Oct. 24.
Costumes are allowed but must follow Spirit Week guidelines mentioned above.
Students are not allowed to leave this event unless it is over or they are being picked up early by a parent/guardian in which case they must get approval from a staff/volunteer chaperone.
Parents/guardians need to pick up students at 4:00pm. Students can be picked up in the front or the back of the school.

Call or visit: Our offices are open Monday - Friday, 6:30am to 3:30pm during the school year. Visit us or call 253-891-5000. Parents/guardians may schedule conferences with teachers/counselors at a mutually agreed upon time.
Email: A majority of our communication to families will be via electronic newsletters/emails. Please check Family Access to make sure we have a valid email address for you. Staff email addresses are on our website in the staff directory.
