MESSAGE
Amazing To’Hajiilee families!
The first weeks of school have been successful. The students are getting in the learning mode and getting back to the school schedule. Please assist them with setting the schedule at home for their study times, rest times and play times. Consistency will help not only with getting things done efficiently, but also will help them feel safe in a predictable environment. Routines are essential for the children and their emotional state. They provide better sleep, reduce stress, encourage independence, help kids feel more relaxed and happy, better focus and productivity, and much more benefits.
We had several exciting events at the school in August and were happy to be able to see many families participate in those. Please read the Newsletter for the highlights of these fun events.
NWEA ASSESSMENT
Beginning of the Year NWEA Testing will take place on August 27th - 29th. See parent letter below for additional information. Make sure you child is in school during these days and gets plenty of rest.
OPEN HOUSE AND MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT
The Open House and Meet the Teacher Night took place on August 21st. Parents and students participated in the "All About Me" activity, which featured Instax mini photos provided by the Director of Family Engagement, Katrina Nez, with assistance from Sabrina Valencia. Families received wall calendars and had the opportunity to meet their child's teachers. Dinner was provided by the cafeteria.
Dr. Shawn Secatero is holding the school calendars that were distributed to families during the Open House and Meet the Teacher Night.
STUDENT CORNER
WARRIOR PRIDE!
Students happily posed for the camera on the first day of school, expressing their gratitude for their purple Warrior shirts.
POPSICLE SOCIAL
Fun in the Sun! Students enjoyed popsicles during a welcome-back social event. This delightful treat was a random act of kindness from TCS.
CULINARY ARTS
Culinary Arts students assisted in serving food during the Song and Dance event held on August 15th in the gym. The elders greatly appreciated their respectful manners. As part of their initial lessons in class, students are learning about safety and cleanliness in the kitchen.
TO'HAJIILEE SONG AND DANCE
The school hosted a song and dance event on August 15th in the gym, sponsored by the To'Hajiilee Senior Center in partnership with local community providers. Students had the opportunity to attend, with some experiencing this type of social gathering for the first time and others familiar from attending similar events with their grandparents. It was a day filled with dancing, socializing, information booths, dummy roping, and participation in the fruit scramble. Students also had the chance to connect with elders from various parts of the Navajo Nation.
Here is a short video clip of the parade that was held on August 13th with the parade route from the Chapter House to the Senior Center.
