North High Newsletter
September 2024
From the Principal
Greetings Viking Families,
The 2024-25 School Year is off to a fantastic start. We are elated to see students engaged in learning and extra-curricular activities! Be sure to keep up with athletics and activities by following the Omaha North High Calendar at mhsaaconference.org.
September is Attendance Awareness Month. Every minute counts and we appreciate your support with getting students to school on time each day. We are working hard to provide high quality learning experiences to deliver on our Portrait of Graduate.
We will have periodic hall sweeps to hold students accountable when they do not show up to class on time, once they are in school.
We will be reviewing Safety Procedures and conducting safety drills in the coming weeks. If we need to implement any of the Standard Response Protocol, communication will be sent at the end of the day. We reserve real time notification (as an event is happening) for situations where action is required on your part. Please know that we value open communication and will do our best to keep everyone informed.
Please review the Newsletter for additional updates. Thank you for your continued support of the Viking Community. If you have any questions, please contact us at 531-299-2700.
Go Vikings!
IMPORTANT: Cell Phone Expectations
PLEASE NOTE: All cell phones and earbuds/headphones must be off and away in all instructional areas of the building. This includes classrooms, the library, and anywhere learning is taking place. Students will be permitted to have their phones out during lunch and passing periods (as needed). It is crucial that students come to school with charged iPads every day. Students will not be allowed to use their phones for class work. Thank you for reinforcing this information with your student and partnering with North High.

Lunch Detentions
We expect our students to 'Be a Viking' in all areas of the building. This means being respectful, responsible, and accountable. Not following these school wide expectations could result in the assignment of a lunch detention.
Lunch detentions will be held in the lecture hall. Students assigned a lunch detention will not be allowed to go to the cafeteria or Viking Center during lunch. Students will be offered a sack lunch and must follow lunch detention expectations. Failure to serve lunch detention will result in further disciplinary action.
Homework Help Room
Students planning to attend homework help room must either sign up for the late bus or make sure they have a ride home. Please see the included graphic for more information about the homework help room.
Extracurricular Activities
Please note, attending extracurricular activities, such as school dances, is a privilege. Students are expected to demonstrate the values of being a Viking consistently. Therefore, students in good standing must meet the following expectations to attend:
- On track for graduation
- Passing a minimum of 6 classes
- Fewer than the equivalent of 5 unexcused absences
- No out-of-school suspension for any violation the week of the event
If students fail to meet these expectations after purchasing a dance ticket, refunds will not be provided.

AP Lang is Bringing the 90's Back!
AP Language and Composition students started the year off by bringing the 90s back. Students took some time in class to cover their new textbooks the old-fashioned way. Now the scholars are ready to hit the books and study for the AP exam.
