Rancho Roundup Week 4

Dr. V's Message
Week 4
I am inspired by our Longhorns and hope they share with you the guiding document we annotated during my Principal Talks. I spend the first weeks visiting classrooms each year, sharing various thoughts, and simply asking our Longhorns to commit to The Ranch! All of our talks are grounded in our schoolwide Learner Profile Traits. Our Longhorns are challenged to connect with us, and we with them!
Below are some highlights of my talks.
Class of 2025, Seniors! The one trait I will highlight from your contract is #1: "As an inquiring, caring, and communicative learner, I commit to asking for help from my counselor or teachers if I fall behind."
Please make sure to get your Senior Contract submitted to your AP. It was great to remind you that I will return with information on tickets for graduation, prom, and grad night in March.
Please remember to turn your contracts into the front office. Your APs will review them. As a reminder, below are your APs by alpha:
A - Fa: Mr. Dillard
Fe - L: Mr. Ryska
M - Re: Mrs. Jackson
Ri-Z: Mrs. Cunningham
Class of 2026, Juniors! In your third year, I want to highlight from your commitments, #3: "As a knowledgeable and reflective learner, I commit to verifying how many credits I need to graduate and to be A-G eligible, and learning about any college exams I may need."
Class of 2027, Sophomores! I will highlight from your commitments #6: "As a communicative, open-minded, and balanced learner, I commit to active reading, listening, and speaking in class or with a partner."
Class of 2028, Freshman! Remember our Freshman Conference? You learned so much that day about various ways you can connect with us, from our ASB leaders and myself to our mental health and community partners. Don't forget what I shared with you, my call to action:
"INTEGRITY - INTEGRIDAD 1. BE CONFIDENT AND WORK HARD
RESPONSIBILITY - RESPONSABILIDAD 2. BE KIND AND POSITIVE
COMMITMENT - COMPROMISO 3. BE A STRONG LEARNER"

Fall Social Emotional and Wellbeing Surveys
Our school district has significantly invested in providing our middle and high school students with unique opportunities. By participating in the Intellispark surveys, our students are not just sharing their feelings about engaging, connecting, and belonging at The Ranch but also playing a crucial role in shaping our school environment. These online surveys will be conducted in their classrooms three times a year (e.g., fall, winter, and spring).
Below is more information:
Multiple-choice survey questions help educators understand their students' interests, goals, and preferences, including their adult and peer relationships and their sense of school engagement, support, and belonging.
This data was designed to provide school-level information on key indicators that align with the California Healthy Kids Survey. The belonging, connection, and engagement surveys have been designed to provide information on key indicators that align with the CHKS and are specific to connectedness.
A student, the current teachers who have that student, and anyone at the site with “Administrative Access” (e.g., counselors) may see the student profile and their responses to survey questions. Teachers who do not currently teach the student do not have access to student information.
When a student's response indicates a low score to questions about their social-emotional well-being, our RBV administration, counselors, and teachers are ready to step in. This is a protocol and testament to our commitment to every student's well-being. We will follow up three times a year when the survey is administered.
Vista Unified School District has a contract with Intellispark. This includes legal agreements in which Intellispark may not interact with or send/sell any student's data to any other entity, including sending data to parents or family members.
If you have any questions, please contact the school. If you do not want your student to participate in this survey, please complete this Opt-Out Form.
