Meet One Of the SAA Office Staff Members
Mrs. Glenn, also known as Mrs. Mandy, is a member of the Southwood Office Staff. She is an amazing and important element to our Southwood family. When asked why she chose her position of employment she responded with a heartwarming story. After being at home with her kids during Covid, she heard about a position that would allow her to still work with kids as well as with faculty members. She quotes,“ My favorite part of the job would definitely be the great staff and student interactions.” She also declared that there are no negatives to her job, but if she had to choose one difficulty, it would be having to see students upset. Mrs. Glenn likes the color orange and also loves tigers. Her favorite sports team is Clemson; however, she has students that go to Carolina and kids at Anderson University, so she finds it hard to choose. She loves to travel and hopes to one day visit the Yellowstone area. According to Mrs. Mandy, her dream super power would be to fly. When asked about Mrs. Mandy, 8th grader Ava Moore stated, ”She is always really helpful when you have a question and is also very nice.” Mrs. Glenn has touched so many lives and we are so grateful to have her here at Southwood.
SAA College Day Spirit is This Friday, August 30, 2024

We are currently fundraising for The United Way of Anderson. It is a $1.00 donation to The United Way if you would like to wear a hat or cap this Friday, too.

What Is Happening In 6th Grade ELA?
During the past couple of weeks, Mrs. Liles' 6th grade ELA class has been working on "Notice and Note Signposts." What that means is her students have been learning about different kinds of writing elements that authors use in their stories. Students use six strategies to analyze the different elements in fictional writing. Last week they started a “Where I'm From” unit. In this unit, they will focus on how their communities affect them and their own experiences growing up. They will read a variety of poetry, memoirs, and short stories. In the upcoming weeks, students in some classes will begin reading the novel, “Towers Falling,” and then the other classes will start reading the novel, “Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie." During these units, students will create a personal narrative writing piece.

***All students and staff members at every Anderson School District Five school must wear a lanyard picture ID for security purposes. All Southwood students and staff must wear their district picture ID each school day. ***
All SAA students must have on their IDs or the temporary ID at the beginning of first block.
** The student’s picture or name should not be covered or marked out.
** This is a safety issue. In case of emergency, rescue workers would not know how to ID our students and staff.
Spotlight on the SAA Staff: Mrs. Boswell
Mrs.Bowell is the 6th grade GT ELA teacher. Her favorite part to teach in ELA is the argument unit because it’s hard for the students to do at the beginning, but they are able to figure it out at the end of the unit. She said that her favorite book genre is realistic fiction and if she had to teach any other subject it would be science. She also said that if she wasn’t a teacher then she would be a home shopping network host.
What do Mrs. Boswell's current and past students think about her?
Eric, a 6th grader and Chorus Major, mentioned that his favorite thing about Mrs. Boswell is her ability to make people laugh; she's hilarious! He also loves reading in her class and looks forward to being there every day.
Dylan, a 7th grader and Band Major, shared that his favorite thing about Mrs. Boswell is how nice and fun she is. He said that, "(he) really enjoyed the read-alouds in her class."
