CHPS Unofficial School Board Election Results
The Nov. 5, 2024 Columbia Heights Public Schools Board of Education unofficial election results are now available on the Minnesota Secretary of State website. The unofficial results will be verified by the Secretary of State's office and canvassed by the School Board on Tuesday, November 12th during the BOE Meeting.
The results show Mary Granlund (incumbent), Michelle Pettway (incumbent) and Corenia Smith as the elected School Board members to begin their terms on January 1, 2025 and serving until December 31, 2028.

CHPS College and Career Fair
Tuesday, November 12 | 6:15-8:00 p.m.
CHPS is hosting a College and Career Fair on Tuesday, November 12th from 6:15-8:00 p.m. in the Hylander Center (1400 49th Ave, NE - Enter Door #41)
There will be many post-secondary options present at this fair:
- Colleges and Universities
- Local Technical Colleges
- Local businesses that hire high school graduates
- Military representatives
We will also have FREE Flu Shots and COVID-19 Vaccines available for anyone 6 months and older. No early sign-up is necessary. Walk-in appointments only.
There will be a representative present providing paperwork and helping with forms needed to apply for passports too! Perfect time to get all that filled out if you have any travel planned for this next year!
CHPS encourages all high school students and their families to attend and speak with representatives and employers. This College and Career Fair is not just for CHHS students! All CHPS students and their families are welcome to attend!
Flu/COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic TODAY
St. Mary's Health Clinic Providing a Flu Shot and Covid-19 Vaccination Clinic
- When: TODAY - Thursday, November 7 from 3:00-7:00 p.m.
- Where: CHPS Family Center (1460 49th Ave. NE, Columbia Heights) - Enter Door #2
- ID will be required for entering the building before 4:00 p.m.
- Who: The COVID-19 vaccination and the Flu vaccination is for adults and children who are six months and older.
CHPS Celebrates Día de los Muertos
Columbia Heights Public Schools hosted a "Día de los Muertos" (Day of the Dead) Celebration in partnership with Anoka County and HACER.
To celebrate, there were many Catrinas present, guest speakers from HACER and Anoka County, Artist Luis Fitch presented on his work, Monica Vega presented the ofrenda she created on the CHHS PAC stage, and dancers from Los Alegres Bailadores performed.
CHPS, Anoka County and HACER were honored to be presented with the official "State of Minnesota Proclamation of Día de los Muertos" by representatives of the Office of Governor Tim Walz and Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan at the event.
CHPS Hosting a Well Child and Immunization Clinic
Columbia Heights Public Schools is hosting a clinic on December 5th, 2024 from 2:30-6:30 p.m. in the CHPS Family Center (1460 49th Ave. NE)
Well child visits and immunizations will be offered - this is free of charge for our families regardless of health insurance status.
Appointments required! You will receive a phone call the week of the clinic to notify you of your appointment time. These visits will be free of charge for CHPS families.

CHHS Theater Presents "Shrek the Musical"
Columbia Heights High School Theater Presents "Shrek the Musical"! Head to Far Far Away and step into the world of Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey and the rest of the crew next month!
All shows will take place in the CHHS Performing Arts Center (PAC):
- Thursday, December 5th at 7:00 p.m.
- Friday, December 6th at 7:00 p.m.
- Saturday, December 7th at 2:00 p.m.
- Sunday, December 8th at 2:00 p.m.
The show is free for all CHPS staff and students to attend! Tickets for adults are $6 and non-CHPS student tickets are $4, which you can purchase at the door or online.
Mayor for a Day Essay Contest
The Mayor for a Day Essay Contest is back!
To enter, fourth, fifth, and sixth graders can answer the prompt, “What would you do if you were mayor for a day?” for a chance to win $100 and recognition in Minnesota Cities magazine.
The deadline for submissions is Dec. 13. Students and parents/guardians can submit essays via an online form, a PDF email attachment, or through the mail. Winners only will be notified in early January. Some cities may provide additional local recognition for participants.
How can you submit your essays?
There are three ways to send us your students’ essays.
- Submit online – students can enter their essays into this online form and submit them directly.
- Print and Mail – you can print this document for students to handwrite their essays and then mail them in to 145 University Ave. W, Saint Paul, MN 55103.
- Email as an attachment – students can type their essays into the fillable PDF, save the document, and then email the finalized PDF to mayorforaday@lmc.org.

Hylander Activities Update
GOOD LUCK to our Girls Swim & Dive Team as they compete in their Sections Tournament this week.
CONGRATULATIONS to our Strikers Soccer Team on the successful completion of their season! Thanks to all our players, coaches, and families for all of their hard work and support.
Join CHHS Drumline- We will meet on Fridays at 7:30 a.m. in the band room, 143. Students can join anytime between now and January.

Girls Flag Football is coming to CA
In partnership with the Minnesota Vikings we are excited to start a Girls Flag Football program at Columbia Academy this year.
The Girl's Flag Football Interest Meeting will be during STAR on Friday, November 9th!
Booster Calendars for sale for $20 in the CHHS Activities Office
- A calendar purchase supports CHHS and CA Activities and you will be entered into a monthly raffle and could win up to $1000!
Sports Physical for all Athletics
Every athlete participating in school-year sports must have a physical on file with the Activities Office. Student Athletes cannot register for the upcoming season without a sports physical on file. Sports physicals are valid for three years. 24-25 Sports Physical Form

Family Cupcake Wars: teams of 1 adult and 1 youth
- Compete for prizes against other family teams in this challenging, but exciting baking contest! Most supplies included in cost; we ask that you bring your own cupcake pans. Register one team member and add the other teammate’s name in the notes.

Boys’ Basketball: Northern Twin Cities Basketball League for Grades 2-6
- Join the Northern Twin Cities Boys' Basketball League! Teams for 2nd-6th grade. Registrations are open now. Your child will play in a recreational basketball league where the focus is on teamwork, skill-building, and fun. They play against SLP, Blaine, Fridley, DaVinci, Coon Rapids, Anoka, etc. varying between Saturdays and Sundays Jan-March. Practices are twice a week on weeknights at the Hylander Center. $60, uniforms included.
