Bloomingdale Blast
March 3, 2024
Dear Bloomingdale Families,
Happy March!
Last week's Spirit Week was so much fun! Students and staff showed their spirit and love for reading throughout the entire week. We celebrated with several specials activities. Special thanks to Mrs. Cruz for leading our Tournament of Books Kick-Off Assembly. Throughout the remainder of the month, classes will read the books nominated by each class and vote for their favorite book. We can't wait to see which book will be crowned the 2024 BAS Tournament of Books Winner!
We would also like to give special thanks to Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Ryan for chairing the Scholastic Book Fair and to Mrs. Egan for chairing the CASA PJ/Book Drive. Both events were a huge success and we hope that students are enjoying reading their new books, writing in their new journals or using their new school supplies! Additional thanks to the Book Fair parent/guardian volunteers and all the families who donated to the PJ/Book Drive. Everyone's support made it a seamless event and allowed us to share the love of reading with our community.
During the month of March, Cranford Schools will recognize Women's History Month. Students will be learning about the history of the heritage month, as well as celebrating the contributions and accomplishments of Amelia Earhart, Madam CJ Walker, and Rachel Carson.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this week's newsletter.
Enjoy the remainder of your weekend,
Kristen D'Anna
Principal
Playground Safety
As a school we developed expectations for many areas of our building, including the playground. The expectations on the poster below are taught to students and reminders are provided throughout the year. At the start of each school year, we agree to work together as a school to follow these expectations.
Students know that these expectations help to keep us safe on the playground and field before, during and after school. We highlight different expectations throughout the year. While we continue to work on "Calm Hands and Feet." We will also place emphasis on the expectations that support BE KIND. This week we will provide reminders on "Choose to Include" and review how to use the 'Buddy Bench.' Choosing to Include all children feel welcome to play and engage with peers. As always, thank you for being supportive and mindful of these expectations.
Attendance Information
We love having your children at school! Regular and timely attendance is of the utmost importance.
- Attendance is important for students' academic and social development. As long as students are healthy, they should attend school.
- Arriving at school on time (between 8:20-8:30) is important in ensuring that students are ready for a day of learning. Classes begin promptly after morning announcements. Late arrivals are disruptive for all students.
Reporting Tardies/Absences
When reporting a student tardy/absent please notify the school by emailing basattendance@cranfordschools.org. If you are unable to send an email, please call 908-709-6973.

Cranford's Annual Relay for Life
Cranford's Annual Relay for Life will be held on Friday, May 17th at Orange Avenue School's back field beginning at 5pm until midnight. Cranford families, school groups, teams and any supporters are invited to register as a team or even individually for this year's Relay for Life event.
What is Relay? Relay is an event where individuals and teams register and work towards getting donations for their team for the event. While at Relay the goal of a team is to always have at least one member on the track walking. Teams in the past have set up tents around the track, decorated for the year's theme and come together to help raise money for the American Cancer Society.
This year's theme is Cranford Cougar Pride! A perfect rally for our community to come together to support survivors, those currently battling cancer and remembering those we have lost as a Cranford Community. There will be theme laps, activities throughout the night as well as various games. This event is welcome to all ages! While staying for the entire duration of the event is always welcomed, we encourage families to come and stay as long as they would like to Relay.
If you are unable to participate but still want to support this cause, you can also make donations as well. Please visit our Cranford Relay for Life website to learn more about registering or making a donation!

What is the CFEE (Cranford Fund for Educational Excellence)?
Started nearly 30 years ago by members of the community interested in supporting innovative educational initiatives in the Cranford Schools, the Cranford Fund for Educational Excellence has awarded more than $325,000 in supplemental funding for educational grants that empower our teachers and impact our students. These grants support ideas that are aligned with the goals and focus areas of the district schools, but are outside the scope of the regular school budget. Please click here for details.
